engine
I am trying to sell my 88' camaro 350 engine. the engine was rebuilt and I should have paperwork for when it was. it has about 8,000 miles and has had 3 oil changes. The engine hasnt been beat and is in good condition, the car hardly got driven after I did the tpi swap. Also The engine is topped with a 90' speed density tpi system, it has a stand alone wiring harness that will come with it and also some 24 pound injectors. The engine is in my el camino and is drivable (besides trans seal I blew) I will be pulling the engine soon and will be trying to sell it as a whole. Im trying to get around $3000, ill go lower and ill try to go with a best offer. Im from new castle delaware.

Re: engine
Give specs on the motor, 3k is a bit high for a more or less stock rebuild. You could get a good crate engine for that. Details on heads, cam, and anything you did that isn't stock. Also pics would help alot.

Re: engine
I'm sorry but I don't think you will get anything close to 3k for your engine. We have a board member that has been trying to sell a built 406 for 3k and hasn't been able to in over a year! I also saw one company that will sell a fully built 408 for around 4K brand new. Sorry to burst your bubble, but you might want to try ebay, or start asking for 1K.
Re: engine
I guess i got ripped off for my reman long block for 1500 then. I mean I dont see why everybody says i should sell a full running engine with every part for a low price, I mean ive seen used ones that are dirty and have broken parts, and they are sellin for atleast 2000. and I havnt seen any complete engines going for any price around 2000 with everything.

Re: engine
I won't rip on a new member because it isn't very nice, but for a stock engine, it is a fair price for 1K or so.
http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ca...accessory.aspx
And that is with the tpi and accesories. A stock rebuild is nothing special because it is cheap and easy to do and has all the limitations of what is still under the hood of so many third gens. Miles is irrelevant when it is a stock rebuild because it is a weak engine and if you beat on an engine for 20K miles and don't take care of it, it could be in worse condition than a 100K mile engine that was taken care of.
It is your engine, but that is why I said that it will be hard to sell for that price. If you think the TPI makes it worth more, it does, but I have three TPI systems for sale that I could put on any longblock but it doesn't add 1K in value, maybe 200 bucks, tops! Good luck, but I don't see it selling on this board.

. If the longblock was $1500(way over paid) and figure $1000 for everything else thats still only $2500 when new with your longblock warranty,,,,,, now theres no warranty ,8k miles on it and you want to make a profit.... Good luck with the sale , I truly mean it but Fyi I sold a 91 305 speed density TPI that would give your stock 350 a run for its money ,complete with harness and ecu for $500... it had 70k on it but didnt burn oil or leak. Re: engine
i was looking at a low milage 305 tuned port with all the accessories/computer and wiring harness the other day at the junkyard i go to and they only wanted 300 and probably 20-30 bucks to take it to my house. does seem highly priced. maybe if it was an ls1.

Re: engine
It's his stuff, he can price it wherever he wants. Buying a junkyard engine is a no-gaurantee kind of thing.
I recommend to make a video of it running and post a link to it here. It sounds to be a drop in-turn key deal and for around $2500-$3000 is a good price. Find the documentation on the rebuild, make a video, and put it on ebay.
That's my 2 cents, Kenny.

Re: engine
I just remembered, I bought one of my formula's for less than 3k, and I mean the whole car, the tires were dry rotted, and it had leaky valve cover gaskets, but it was a very solid car. Not bad for $1800, but what the heck, I am curious how many PM's he has gotten on this engine. Good luck once again, and yes I really mean it.
Re: engine
ya know what I know you can go buy some peice of crap fro a junk yard that needs alot done to it, but this is an engine thats still the way I bought it cause the car dont get driven much at all. the engine is drop in running with nothing needed and you wont have to worry about it. i guess that nobody understands that its not some peice of junk from some beat car, and its not like i put a bunch of junk together either. the tpi has all been sandblasted, and cleaned, and repainted and the plenum has been polished. and Im not just some dumb guy who just decided to build and engine, im actually a mechanic. Im not asking for smart remarks about what junk you can buy, I am simply trying to sell the engine I am not interested in, and notice I said offers are accepted, I havnt sold an engine, so I have no clue what they sell for, im used to helping build a racing pontiac and I know they are expensive, so I am not familiar with what they would sell for. I am not looking for opinions, but just reasonable offers.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: engine
OK, what the heck, a mechanic eh? Problem, without documentation on the engine, your word means..........well..........nothing! That is what we are trying to say. At least twice a week, I see new members on here trying to sell stuff and I can tell they don't know jack. I have even come across a few who claim to be a mechanic and found out that they are a shadetree mechanic who tinkers with cars, not a real mechanic. As a ASE certified technician, I can tell you straight, that without documents supporting claims and what not, most members won't just believe a new member, not happening.
Give specs on the engine, cam and heads specs help, compression ratio, and what you used on the bottom end. I got into a scuffle with a board member selling his 406 because he said he didn't know what was in the engine and said he believed it had a Cola "cast crank" which my BS detector went off. I will say, my BS detector went off with this post also, you say you see junk engines for 2K, where? You help build racing engines yet you have a stock rebuild engine? Huh? On top of it, you buy a remanufactured block for $1500, wow, you could do a new block for less.
Too bad I'm getting out of the grease monkey business, I loved it but no more passion for it, and the economy is down the drain right now. Good luck but without info on the engine of paperwork, it is the same value as a "junkyard jewel".

Re: engine
i honestly don't care if your god himself doc stop ****ing with his sale........... your rediculous. His price may sound high to you doc ,but you surely aren't interested so why are you posting in the first place.
anyways Doc did mention a good point though, the paper work scanned and added for the engine overhaul will go along ways, along with lots of detailed pictures.
g/l sound like this would be a nice setup to drop in and go for a period correct rebuild. Would be even better for those that don't wrench on a daily basis, because of that, it will save them precious time/money in the long run.
glad to hear you are working on your certifications, so am i currently, only have 1 ASE certification myself currently ,but am working on taking another 4 if i get enough study time in before spring. Hopefully i'll pass my engines ASE certification next time lol.... (missed it by 2 questions).

Iam a tech and I am almost through school for my certification and ASCs. And Ive built race enines that see to stay together well. I dont want this thread to be some huge fight. to those, yes I have paperwork on the engine and I will see if i still have ones of the engine going together and as well the engine itself. It will be pulled from my car soon and Im not sure if i looking to put it back in.

Just throwing it out there but what media did you use when you "sandblasted" your tpi?
