I have available a GM steering shaft upgrade. This shaft replaces your stock shaft and replaces the worn out rag joint with u-joints to provide a much tighter steering feel, as an added bonus they give extra clearance required for most headers. These are pulled from late model Astro vans and modified so they are a direct bolt-in, all that is required is a small notch on your steering column end to allow clearance for the pinch bolt to slide through. These are cleaned, modified and painted gloss black then greased before shipping. If you are looking for the popular Jeep Shaft Upgrade this Astro Shaft works the same but is actually a nicer unit. It has 2 metal bushing where the shafts join as apposed to mostly cracked plastic bushing found on Jeep Shafts as well as a small set screw to help eliminate play between the shafts. These GM Shafts are a "Solid" unit so they do not have the rubber isolator to wear out like is found on the Jeep Shaft. I do have a GM {Astro} unit with a rubber isolator in limited quantities if you want one (Ask BEFORE Payment). These units are collapsible in case of a front end collision unlike some of the other Rag Joint Eliminators on the market. Maximum installed length is 20 1/2".
$75 shipped to the states.
PM me if you want one!
This is the end that attaches to the steering column:
This is the steering box end, note how nice the u-joint is:
Set screw in the center:
Metal bushing in lieu of plastic:
The one on the top is the Shaft with Rubber Isolator, the bottom one is the Solid Shaft
The theory is the rubber helps to reduce the road vibration in the steering wheel but if that was the case then why would some have it and some not. From what i can tell only 1 year came with the rubber, all the rest were solid.
NOTE: Anytime you change any steering components and Alignment is recommended and may be required to center your steering wheel!
FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY!

This is how the shaft is supposed to be installed with the set screw in the groove.
Before you notch your steering column install the lower end on the steering box, then with the shaft positioned as shown mark the steering column for the bolt.
These are the instructions for notching the column. I used a Jeep shaft in the pictures however its the same for the GM {Astro} Shaft.
I have had many questions about the notching of the shaft so i thought some more instruction may be in order.
The notch required for the bolt has to be made on your steering column shaft NOT the Shaft.
To make things easier i used an extra steering column for the pictures. The area you are seeing is the part of the steering column that comes thru the firewall.
This is what it looks like once you remove your stock shaft.
Slide the Jeep shaft on as shown.
If you look thru the bolt hole you can see where the column shaft sticks out into the opening.
Mark the center of the bolt hole with a marker.
I got carried away with my die grinder so the notch is larger then it needs to be.
Now you can see the bolt hole is clear straight thru.
Bolt installed and shaft locked in from sliding off.
Hopefully this helps.

1. Do we discard the plastic shroud that is covering the shaft now.
2. Is there an advantage to move the brake lines towards the fender as in earlier posts?
The plastic cover is not used, there may be a way to use it but most people like the cleaner look without it.
I am not sure about the brake lines, i no longer have my IROC to look at.
Yes i only take PayPal.
PM me when your ready and i will send payment instructions. Unfortunately shipping to Canada adds $45 to the cost.
The spring around the lines are there to help keep them from kinking, you can also make sure to make the bends gradual as well. They can rust from the inside out so don't be surprised if they do break which would be good in the long run if they do.
I already have the new shaft, but I need to replace the plastic bushing with the metal bearing. The websites listed above were for G-body cars, does their bearing also fit the F-body?
