What do you mean it's both Hydraulic and Solid?

Comp cams told me.. this cam can be used/ran with Mech or Hydraulic Lifters.. (that's what they told me).. Originally Posted by The Eager Teen

12-000 Cam cores can be used with either a hydraulic roller or solid roller lifter. It's a hard cam. It's like a $415 cam. Originally Posted by The Eager Teen

The 12-000 just means sbc engine. The -11 part means steel billet core
the lobe numbers 4874 and 4875 mean its a solid roller xtreme energy lobe. Its a street series lobe. They would be aggressive hyd rollers imo and i wouldnt do it without good lifters and lightweight valvetrain. But you could do it if you need the lobe lift

Yes, the 12 is a SBC Hydraulic or solid roller (pre 1987) "Streer roller".Originally Posted by Orr89RocZ

From my comp book:
Street Roller Cam Cores (Hydraulic or Solid Roller)
(special material - works with most standard distributor gears)
12-000-8 CHEVROLET 262-400 V8 (1957-98)
vs OE roller:
Race Roller Cam Cores - Steel Billet
08-000-9 CHEVROLET 262-400 V8 (1987-98)
07-000-9 CHEVROLET LT1 Engine (1992-98)
I'm running an 07-000 on my LT1, but on my 412 I'm running 12-000.
The 12-000 on my 412 can be hydraulic or solid roller, but the 07-000 and 08-000 for OE blocks is hydraulic only. Different core blank.
The -11 is billet, but that has nothing to do with the hydraulic vs solid roller.

Not gonna argue lol i have the master lobe index and ordered cams from comp before, part numbers are critical. Thats what it says for that cam
billet cores are an absolute must on solid rollers that will see higher spring pressure above 180 lbs seat. Street rollers tend to be ok with less pressure but 180 ish lbs seat is aggressive for a hyd roller. Its doable but billet cores are def preferred material
its a good grind. A similar if not same cam has gone high 10’s in my buddys old miniram 406

I'm not disputing that it's billet lol. I'm saying the 12-000 core is part of the "Street roller" series which is both hydraulic and solid:Originally Posted by Orr89RocZ

It's a really nice cam. Same core that I have in m 412 (billet too), but with very aggressive lobes.

As i said 12-000 is sbc 1957-1998 non roller. Its same for flat tappets. 12-000-7. 12-000-5. For race billet roller 12-000-9. 12-000-11
but more important the lobes are street solids
