I have a Stock 92 305 with TBI, I am going to try to get 270 ponies out this thing, at a reasonable cost.....Don't want to rebuild lower end so please no lower end stuff....

 

Are you willing to do heads and a cam package change? If so, hate to ask it but why not just run the stock 305 until you are able to replace the 305 with a crate motor?

why not go tpi, back when i had my 305 with tpi it was a fun car to drive

 

I looked at world product heads, they are reasonable...still in the "mulling over" process on how far I want to go with this thing or should I fix it up to Stock specs sell it and get an Iroc or Z28

I have a edelbrock multipoint tbi manifold from my 91 silverado pickup,you would need an edelbrock chip(mine is for a 350).The truck was in an accident but all the multipoint conversion parts are ok.I will also include a 5.0l ho dual inlet air cleaner. I also have a tpi setup with computer and performance chip(and stock) but I dont have wireing harness.With the tpi I will include a slp cold air intake with k&n filter,and a stock air cleaner assembly.

Wow.. the guy that spent probably three weeks in front of his keyboard typing up all the crap on that page is an idiot.. I spent a little while skimming through it and he repeats himself a couple million times and contradicts himself almost as many. I can agree with him in the simple point that a 305 TBI can be built to make decent power.. but the biggest downfall of the 305 is not its small size. It is because of its stupid small bore. It can't breathe right. The idiot went on to talk about adding a stroker kit and saying that adding 30 cubic inches added 100 horsepower. Yea, because that happens..

 

I know right.....I was gonna throw out the 305 when I first got the rig...however he had some good pointers for a noob like me.

 

I also still have my 305 in mine... Its still fun to drive and works well. I have some simple upgrades done to it also. But as soon as I have the stuff gathered to properly upgrade (seems the tuning stuff will be the most difficult to me) Its going to get some kind of 4" plus bore block along with some Vortec heads and the wildest cam I can throw at it.. Its also getting a 3.42 rear & I'm having an idea on doing some kind of homemade multipoint fuel injection using a carb intake & drilling it for injectors.. But part is still in my head...

 

I've got a set of 059 vortecs that would wake a 305 up quite a bit. Barely used. Taking best offer before I sling them on fleabay

 

I was going to suggest Vortec heads. Mill them to 60 cc and use shim head gaskets to gain compression. Get an Edelbrock TBI manifold for Vortec heads. With a mild roller cam, headers, cat back and possibly some tuning, you should be good.

A plus is if you do go 350 or bigger, you'll still be able to use this stuff.
