You can remove the pump and just get a different size belt. I have a belt with practically zero miles on it.

 

I did that a decade ago in my 89 TA, but it seems like the idler was damn near maxed out on travel.

Regardless, what is the P# on the belt you have?

Hmm, your idler should be fine with the correct belt size. The belt you use is actaully shorter than the stock length, this is assuming you remove the pump as opposed to using an AIR delte pulley. I don't remember the part number off hand but you should be able to get it with a quick search. It is K96XX, or along those lines.

I have seen the various methods for conquering the task, and am not entirely opposed to using a shorter belt for the time being.

Longer belt worked fine on the IROC, but I'd like to have the delete pulley for the GTA.

 

Here is a thought , the export delete for the smog pump was discontinued years ago. The gates 38029 was the pulley they used on the delete bracket. The bearing is Bearing Bore I.D. 1 . The guide belt guide setup is still available gm or acdelco 10129569
