Vortec motor build

Hey everyone I am building a non emission compliant 355 for my 86 Camaro. It was previously a V6 2.8l (just an FYI). I am starting with a 3970010 block that is bored .30 over and picked up some 12558062 heads from the salvage yard. I am looking for:

roller rockers
valve covers that will accommodate a .465 lift
timing chain cover
distributor
headers
motor mounts
intake manifold
and some other parts....

Let me know what you have along with a price shipped to 18840 unless you don't live to far away and I can come pick it up.

You need to put more information.
What type of distributor?
What type of intake?
Etc...

I have a nice black timing cover that has Chevrolet stamped in it with a bow tie emblem.
$30 plus shipping.
Might have more stuff once I know more about what you are looking for.

Sorry I literally only have a few pieces (Block, Heads, Crank, Cam, Pistons, rods, double roller timing chain) yes that's it at the moment so I need a lot.....
Timing chain cover
Vortec center bolt valve covers
1.5 roller rockers
Pro Poducts Crosswind Intake for vortec heads
Summit Racing HEI Dizzy
600CFM Carb
1 5/8" Headers into dual 2 1/4" exhaust pipes

I'm going to the local pick a part to pick up thermostat housing and other odds and ends on wednesday

I have a set of Scorpion roller rockers, 1.5 ratio with less than 10 miles on them, I ordered them by mistake. They have some very slight scuff marks on the bottom from chafing against the stud. If you are interested pm me your email and I will send pics. I'm asking $200. shipped and can take Paypal.

You will either need self aligning rockers for the Vortecs,or,install screw in studs with guide plates.A lot of the non-self aligning roller rockers have clearance problems with the centerbolt valvecovers.Using tall valve covers will help with 1 issue,but,the bosses that the bolts pass thru can still be tight.Especially w/ aluminum rockers becuz they are most often wider.You could always use the centerbolt to perimeter bolt adapters.They run about $70 @ most places tho.

I would seriously consider finding a later model roller block to build from.Those heads should also be ckd for cracks befor spending any money on them.

At this point I am stocking up on parts before I sent stuff to the motor shop.... if there is a problem with any of the parts then I will go another route for better parts.

True about the guide plates, no clearance issues with valve covers and they are narrow body so no problems with centerbolt bosses. I forgot to mention, they are part #1037. You can get all info at the Scorpion website.

Thanks.The narrow body usually don't have clearance issues.I just didn't want him runnin out & buying any set thinking they were all the same.

The concerns I have on the 0010 block are that it has to a minmum of 30 something yrs old & may have already excessive boring/decking on it.It is also a flat tappet block that will limit you to using a flat tappet cam,or,using an expensive retro kit if going roller.With todays oils,flat tappets require proper breakin along with continuous maintenance & additives to live very long.A later model 880 block would be a much better platform to build from & can be found easily & usually not very expensive.

I wouldn't want that either and if there was a problem that was any of my fault I would give him all of his money back. That is why I put the part number in, so anyone interested can be sure for themselves.

To the OP, this is real good advice and if I were you I would follow it. The roller cams also give so much better performance too.

If you want to open up your budget a little, I have a set of 84-86 magnesium Corvette valve covers already clearanced for a narrow body rocker arm. Let me know if you want pics and price.
