Re: AP Exhaust Tail Pipes
Do you need those exact AP/Eastern mandrel bent tailpipes because they match the dimensions required for a certain AP/Eastern muffler?
Reason I ask is we just put an AP/Eastern 700359 MSL/MAXIMUM series muffler and AP/Eastern tailpipes on a 89 GTA that are a different part number. AP/Eastern 34754 & 34755. These look to be the same but smooth compression bent instead of mandrel bent.
AP/Eastern muffler, tailpipes, clamps, exhaust hangers for High Output single cat and High Output N10 dual cat cars.
Oh I see you got a Dyno Don exhaust system.

What muffler did you get to go with this system? I assume it is a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets to take full advantage of Dyno Don's true 3" OD intermediate pipe.
Dynomax makes 2.5" OD mandrel bent tailpipes that are the equivalent to the AP tailpipes you are looking for. 43243 & 43244

Well the factory muffler was ate up inside even though it looked just perfect on the outside. So I never got to hear what it should have sounded like with the factory muffler. The new muffler sounds good. I have no idea how to compare the sound of this muffler to what these cars sounded like back in the day with a factory exhaust based off my subjective sound memory.

I wanted these exact ap tail pipes because I felt they are as close to being spot on as the stock ones. I’ve seen those you posted, as well as the walker tail pipes and both are close to stock but not as spot on as these IMO.
I haven’t chosen a muffler yet, not a fan of flowmaster or magnaflow. I wanted the dynomax ultra flo #17227 but I guess that is discontinued as well. So I think I’ll end up biting the bullet and getting the Borla #40474 that one is 3” inlet dual 2.5 outlets to go with the dyno don headers, y-pipe, and 3” i-pipe. Should sound and flow great! Just cost an arm and a leg lol

Re: AP Exhaust Tail Pipes
Yeah most all the good stuff is discontinued. We wanted the mandrel bent AP/Eastern tailpipes you're looking for to go with the AP/Eastern muffler but had to settle for compression bent tailpipes. The AP/Eastern exhaust was second choice because the Dynomax Ultra Flo SS 17266 polished muffler for our cars is discontinued.
I was going to suggest the Dynomax Ultra Flo 17227 but it's discontinued too. Was going to suggest the Magnaflow 12267 but now see you don't care for them. I wouldn't have a Flowmaster muffler if you gave it to me as the star on top a fully decorated Christmas tree.
So pretty much your left with busting out that pocket book for the Borla or taking what you can actually get these days. OMG you can buy two Mangaflow mufflers for what that Borla costs.
Yea things are getting tough with alot of good options being discontinued. Are the stock tailpipes 2.25”? Or 2.5”? If they’re 2.5” I would just have the shop cut those off and weld up to the new muffler lol
I was in the same boat with the tail pipes. I did manage to get the passenger side from summit two years ago. Now the driver side I had to call ap/eastern and they were able to look up and see which one of their dealers had one in stock. I called several dealers that they gave me. Most of them did not have it in stock. One place had one but it had a dent in the end of it. I bought it anyways and was somewhat able to get the dent hammered out.
Maybe I’ll give AP a call and see if any of their direct dealers have any of them left over in stock. I doubt it at this point in time, but doesn’t hurt to try.

Re: AP Exhaust Tail Pipes
Maybe a stupid question. Your profile says are in Southern California. Is your GTA registered in another state? Nothing you have in that pic of Dyno Don stuff in your trunk has a California Air Resource Board E.O. number.
Not a stupid question at all. Yes my car is registered here in CA and no those parts don’t have an E.O number. But other than death and taxes, everything can be worked around lol
Looking for these OEM style tail pipes! No longer offered on summit and can’t find anywhere else.
I was looking for these too. They appear to be discontinued. I called AP directly to inquire. If you find a source, let me know and I''l do the same. They appear to be replaced by the tail pipes Airwolfe posted below your OP.

He wants some and you want some and probably others want some too. They probably still have the plans and program for the mandrel bender and could make more. Could always ask them and see how many sets it would take for them to make another small run

I've called Dynomax, A LOT, on bringing back both of their Ultraflow crossflow style mufflers!

would be worth a try I guess! I would assume it would have to be a large number to make it make sense for them though
If Walker cam back out with a 3" cat back option for the n10 cars, I would definitely be in! I thought back in the day they also offered a 2OTL option as well, or am I wrong? My car never sees snow or rain, so paying big bucks for something stainless seems like overkill.

Yes they did have a 2OTL option, haven't seen one in years!

Doesn't really have to be out in weather for exhaust to rot out. Short trips with a lot of condensation left in the pipes isn't good either, have to get the exhaust hot all the way through to burn out the moisture

AP/Eastern MSL MAXIMUM vs CHALLENGE mufflers.
@gt4373 In my reply above the RockAuto box the Dynomax Muffler is sitting on has the exact same AP/Eastern Direct-fit muffler and tailpipes we used on the 1989 GTA 5.7L TPI ASC convertible I posted earlier in this thread but this time we got the AP/Eastren CHALLENGE LTW muffler instead of the MSL MAXIMUM muffler. It's going on a 1987 5.7 TPI IROC-Z.
The MSL MAXIMUM has a nice mellow OEM sound. When we get the exhaust installed on the IROC-Z with the CHALLENGE LTW muffler I will see what it sounds like. I'll try to get a video of both running to compare but I have a crap cell phone so I don't expect much on the sound quality. I'll give my opinion on the two different mufflers as they sound in person to my ears.
This will be a AP / EASTERN 700359 MSL/MAXIMUM Series vs a AP / EASTERN 3228 Challenge LTW Series muffler sound off.
My friend has added more clean low mile 3rd gens to the collection so I have more original cars to compare muffler sounds to.
