Motor swap- remove the 6 and put in a 350, need help with a ?
Ok to start off i am looking into buying a 83 berlitine or summin like that camaro with a blown v-6 in it and i was wondering if i could put the 350 motor and th350 tranny out of my not really computorized 1979 chevy impala. the motor and tranny are mostly built up and i need to know if it is possible and worth it to buy this camaro for $650 and put a 350 and a th350 in it. please reply to any knowledge of what to do or were to go. IT NEEDS TO STAY CHEAP!!!!!
Well ok i got that but isnt there computor crap to deal with the 350 is older with hardly any if any computorized crap do i just cut it out and set up like the 350 was in its original form as a 4 door luxury cruizer?

Well thanx, the 350 has been beefed up so i could race my 4 door impala and win so i would rather put it in the car then go and find one with a v8 in it cause i dont want to have to switch the ****ty 305 for a 350 if i could pay less nad get a v-6 and rip it out and throw the 350 in it. The 350 can go 130 and above and has a hell of a lot of tork. It is a low mile v-8 also

I take it emissions isn't a player, so do it. what will the rear gear be? w/the 350 tranny you may/may not like running the car for prolonged highway speeds. tokeep the swapp easier, stick w/84 and lower year vehiclees to avoid "all that computerized crap" & keep it to a minimum. good luck on the swap.

You can easily find a f-body with a bad/blown LG4 and be way ahead in terms of total cost and time spent doing the swap. I bought my 86 Z28 (T-top/5-speed) for $600 with a cracked block.
Well i dont care about emissions i really want to take all the emissions off of the car cause i live in traverse city, michigan and we have no real regulations on emisions only when you sell a car. So will there be a whole bunch of the computor crap anmd can i take it all off and just rewire it to the specs that my 79 impala was set up as cause there isnt much but some computors and i really dont want to mess with it. The camaro is only a berlitin or whatever with t-tops and only 650 but it can be talked down and there isnt a lot of not rusty cars in michigan that are a good price. I would like to put atleast a 10 bolt 3:93 gear in it cause thats what in my impala and it burns to ****. The frame on my impala is blown out of proportion and it wont last much longer that is why i am using my 350/th350 for this camaro but before i buy the camaro i need to know if it will take a super long time to put the 350 in the 6 bangers spot.

The answer? The suspension.
You're going to have to do a motor swap anyway, you might as well do it in a car already set up for a V8.

Well i havnt been able to find a camaro with a 305 v-8 in it for cheep in northern michigan and this car with a 6 is cheap and in great condition. is there a way to rip out the computor and use nothing from the motor on the camaro or the tranny. and also i can get the suspension out of a junk yard for the camaro very easy i know where a couple are at so i can set it to a v-8 very easy but the body and motors are totaled on all of the junkyard cars up here. thanx.
Sounds like you've made up your mind then..
In that case, to answer your original question: yes it's possible, and since you have the motor/trans already it should be pretty cheap to set up and get running. Getting a V8 suspension (basically front springs is all you really have to have) sounds like it's easy for you.
Your only real hurdle is the transmission crossmember for the TH350. You'll have to either fabricate one of your own, or buy Spohn's little crossmember kit. After that, it's just details.

well since you are swapping in a carbed motor, EFI ignition, I think about the only thing the computer will run is the fuel pump, and you will need to rewire that..just don't go tearing out any wiring till you KNOW you dont need it. As for the suspension. you need to swap the front springs and swaybar.
Search the archives, lots if info on this board...and yes it can be done.
This kit can be had at Summit for your th350...$80.00 And a drive line adjustment....
Good luck
