This particular ZZ4
Have any of you guys bought or heard more about this kit here:
http://www.paceparts.com/product.asp?0=239&1=241&3=341 . It really seems like a good kit and was just curious to see if anyone can tell me more about it.

It looks pretty cool but I would save money and buy a regular ZZ-4 and save the extra cash.
Example: high flow manifolds come with this kit. Most header systems are emmissions legal and make more power.
Why spend extra money to go slower? Most guys out there make it through emmsions without all the smog stuff.

I can think of a few reasons:
1) The ZZ4 is nice, but getting it to work smog-legal will probably cost you more than another $1000 (exhaust - ~$900 or more for a similarly performing system; ignition, ~$250; dual-snorkel air cleaner kit, $250, etc.). The ZZ4 will also have a distributor that you can't use.
2) The kit includes the EGR external pipe - a big savings in hassle over trying to fab it up yourself with just the basic ZZ4 engine.
3) You get at least $1000 worth of worthwhile parts - tranny upgrades, control arms, etc.
4) Headers will run you about $350-$600 to go with the dual cats the kit comes with. A reasonable cost for a nice upgrade to an already great system.
5) The kit is the only true way to put a ZZ4 in your car certified legally.
Two other things the kit doesn't include, which would round out the package nicely, are subframe connectors and a higher stall torque converter.
I think it's a good way to put an emissions-legal 350 in your early 3rd gen. I just don't have the funds to do it personally. I'll have to be satisfied with what I've got now.

I would just get the regular ZZ4, I am getting one and match porting the intake and heads, giving it a .30 over bore with forged pistons, a electric water pump, and a 100 shot of NOS or something with a lot more goodies but I will keep it stock for a while. I also dont have emissions checks here in Indiana

Thing is I'm in CA so I need to pass emissions and I"m looking for the best way to add a 350....I suppose I could get a 350 from an 87 or later car and do that swap, but I'd prefer a new engine. Also you never know what you're gonna get from a junked car and often times parts are missing.

That may not mean much to you, but it is significant to about 50% of the people on this board.

I understand that many are worried about emissions. But though my ZZ4 with TPI is not technically "emissions legal” because of it's lack of a working EGR it passes emissions tests easy in fact better than it did on my last test with my L98. So I say through that sucker in there spray it and leave the 13.8 in the dust.:lala:
