Gas Tank change-out after motor swap
I have recently changed out my 305 to a 383 Roller. My new motor Has a mechanical fuel pump on the motor, and my gas tank has an electrical fuel pump. Up until recently, I was able to run my motor with both pumps working (even though it was a little sluggish), Then all of a sudden my fuel delivery ceased. I'm guessing that my electric pump took a dump. I'm gonna pull my tank out, to remove my electrical pump and figured that I would go ahead and get a new tank while I'm at it. My question is this: Does anyone know where to get a tank for a 92 RS, that has a fuel pick-up instead of a pump and the part numbers.
you have some other problem, a mechanical pump will pull fuel through the factory set up, maybe the screen is clogged, blow some air through the line and the screen ought to come odd the pick up

Hey Ede not to disagree, but I am. When I did my swap I tried to pull through the intank pump..no go. Got a afpr and the intank pump is working just fine...
Some can some cant..go figure

removing the pump in the tank, then just dropping a line in has been done by people on this board, That would be a quick fix.....other than that, I would remove and block the mechanical, and put another in tank pump in.....easy fix
Are you sure the pump is shot? Can you hear it running at all? I'm surprised you didnt blow that demon to bits running the stock pump...way to much psi......

The guy who built my motor ( Peter Delassandro ), use to work at GM'sTech center at the proving grounds. He use to work with Lingenfelter, and use to hang with Jack Roush. He helped develop and implement the LT1 motor and the SB2 heads. He has recently retired and moved to Key Largo FL. He works about 3 hours a day to keep from going stir crazy. H doesn't need the money, and charged me a miniscule amount to build my motor.
He told me that eventually, I was going to have to remove the electrical fuel pump form the tank, but it should be OK for now. So thats why I figured the electric finally took a dump ( 130,000 miles). As far as hearing it make some noise... I haven't heard a thing. The only thing I know is that I'm not getting any fuel to my carburetor.

Yep, time to take another fuel delivery aproach. Dropping the tank would be my next step...switch out the pump with a lower volume one suited for carbs....or / and use an AFPR to take contrl of your fuel pressure...good luck.....PS....I'm a little jealous...wish I had a realworld friend with those credentials....:hail:

When I did mine I removed the fuse for the electric pump and connected the mechanical pump to the return line. the only thing to watch for is that the return line doesn't go quite so far down in the tank, so you have to watch your level more closely and fill up before it actually gets to E.
