In stock form ALL Chevy 400's suck. They lack decent compression and have anemic cams. Somebody help me out on this... the last year they were produced is like '79. Around here were flush with them. Lots of pickups and Blazers came with them. Also big heavy station wagons and cars. Most of the ones I've run accross are on their second rebuild. For some reason they don't last long with hard use.

NO, no FI ever, period. not even a 4-barrel carb.

I usually find them in big cars, Impalas and station wagons, and occasionally in Chevelles and monte Carlos. My wife had a 74 MC back in the mid 70s that had one for instance. hers didn't last too long... we took it out and sold the shell when it had about 275,000 miles on it, traded it for a transmission R&R in another car.

Actualy, starting in '74 or '76 (I forget wich) - '80 you could order a 400 chevy with a 4bbl but before that you could not.

People only buy 400s for the block core. After that you throw everything away and start over.

All 400 chev motors are carbureted. get the short block freshened up and put on a small CC head (like 461s or 462s) with a decent cam and you have a dynamite low budget 9.5:1 motor that will put out a lot of HP and Torque.
