What oil pan are you running with your y-pipe???

I am going to be putting a ZZ4 shortblock in my '89 Iroc-Z with SLP 1 3/4 headers soon and need a recomendation on an oil pan. I have searched the boards and have only found that the Moroso 6QT #20182 will fit but I need to crush the y-pipe in some areas. I dont want to restrict the y-pipe. Also it seem that the Moroso pans are not of great quality. Whats a good quality pan????? Whats everyone use with SLP 1 3/4 headers??? Would it be better to get one with a windage tray...what exactly does it do???? Or should I just reuse the stock one?????

Why would you want to replace the oil pan? It should bolt up with no problems but I could be wrong.

i guess i'm confused too any SBC oil pan that works with your block will clear the y pipe. are you wanting larger capacity pans? hambuger makes some real nice pans and can make you a custom fit pan if you need it.

I run the Moroso pan with my SLP 1.75" headers and only had to dimple my y pipe in a few areas to clear..not crush.I have no problems with the pan fitment or quality at all,I have always run Moroso pans on past motors with the same results.

I am using the Milodon for 86 and earlier Camaro's with the two-piece seal. They also make one for the one-piece seal.
No dimpling necessary on mine.

Since the SLPs locate the Y-pipe in the same location as the stock one, anything that will work with the stock exhaust should work with the SLP...

I'm running the 71-73 Z28 6-quart system windage tray pan on my 400 with the Edelbrock TES for L69 (big Y-pipe), excellent fit.

I'm running the ZZ4 pan and baffle (SDPC had a take-off special last year). I don't have SLPs, but my y-pipe fits in there just fine.

That extra quart of oil isn't doing you any good. Deeper pans were needed back in the days when dyno juice was the best oil available, but that certainly isn't the case any more. If you want extra oil going through the system, put on a remote mount filter with two elements and an oil cooler.

Call me crazy but i though thirdgens had a fairly specific pan they used. IE a truck pan wouldn't fit it.

i've been wrong before.

Right... a truck pan won't, and an older full-size won't. The ones from an A or G body will. They started making all the car ones the same at some point, in the mid 80s I think but I could be wrong; so after some year yet to be accurately specified, any car one will fit.

I'm using the TD Slam-Guard Pan.
Basically a stock size pan with a thick skid plate welded onto the sump.(My car's very low). My SLP Y-Pipe clears without any dimpling or flattening, but it's close.
