Unless you plan on using the thing a lot, and have a place to store it (they take up a lot of room) you should look into renting one.
Check your Yellow Pages or check the local repair shop. They may be willing to rent theirs out for a day.

Try a flea market.. i picked up my cheap-o IIT (i think?) for $135.. flat.. new in box.. a 2 ton hoist that folds up and has an 8ton ram jack on it... a week or two later I saw the EXACT same brand/hoist/everything selling in a store for $170... so you just gotta shop around.. before I did the best price I saw was $200 too.. but when I caught it at $135 I jumped on it...

Rent one for 20 buck. Thats what I did. Its been a year and I still dont need one. Dont waste your money unless your pulling alot of engines. Buy some engine parts or something. Oh WTW test the hoist first cause the first one I rented the seal was going bad. I could have broke and droped the engine. If I saw that I would be wishing I was under the engine when it droped. It would suck that bad.
i paid 200 for mine several years ago from sams club and it is by far the nicest looking and best built of any "economy" ones i've saw. i've seen them in the 140 range at car shows and flea markets.

Thanks alot guys, I appreciate your input. I didnt even think about renting..or Sams club..I have a membership. I think I will buy one that can be put away. I have the 327 just about ready to come out, sure is alot easier now that the 2.8 swap is all done. Now I can clean all the yuck and wires out of the bay, and get things right..ever wonder why I haven't posted any engine bay pics...

i got a foldable model from poop-boys for 200. I think autozone carries the same one too. Its made by arcan.
I got one from Harbor Freight for $135. Some guy bought it thinking it was the fold-up kind, and he didn't realize it wasn't until he had half of it put together. He took it back and they put it on sale. Hell of a deal for a brand new piece, all I had to do was take it apart in the store and load it up.
