ZZ4 Questions

what can I use from the L98 and drivetrain with a ZZ4 short block. I have a friend who wants to drop one into his car and needs to know if there is anything he can, could, or should keep from the L98. I am helping him out with this project and would like to find some literature about it if there is any.

I 'm putting in the fastburn motor now and pretty much everything will change over! You may have to drill a hole in one of the heads for a bracket, i don't know for sure since we have'nt gotten that far yet! You will also need a different water pump as well. I think you will have to use the stock distributor. If you want to retain the fuelinjection, if that is what he has, then do not use the stock tpi, very restrictive! You will lose power. I am using the miniram as well as the hot cam. good luck

thinking about going with a stealth ram actually, he's on a budget and the mini ram was too expensive. He's got a stock distributor but wanted to know if he can use AFR aluminum heads and an MSD GM style HEI distributor instead of stock and keep the fuel injection

Sorry about that, i was really tired last nite and saw that you are using the short block and you wanted to know if the drivetrain would switch over! Sorry about that, I was thinking of the accessories! Well, i would recommend a different cam just because you can get more power from a new one. If you do use an hei dist. it should work, just get one for your specific application! I am using mine because it has 80,000 miles on it and i am going with the MSD 6AL kit anyway. I just replaced the cap, rotor, and plug wires. You should be safe with that unless the stock one is really beat up. It would save you like $200 if you were able to use your stock one. As far as the heads, they should work too, the zz4 block is like any 350 only i believe it is 86-later. I hear ya on the miniram! I got mine in the spring right before anyone really knew about the stealthram. It actually is not that more expensive. If you decide to go with TPIS' chip then that is what makes it so expensive! When i found out that i didn't need to use their chip, i returned it to them. They were cool about it. Well, good luck with the motor.

how much did your mini-ram cost? moreperformanceinc.com had the cheapest price, and it was 1100 for the intake and fuel rails only. thunderracing.com has a complete (cept for throttlebody) Stealth ram kit for 500! I think we're gonna go with that one and get a fat old 58mm throttlebody cause he's got a hookup and can get one for $250. Thanx for the help!

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, try to rub it in my face, i know! I got the miniram in the spring before the stealth ram was in the public view as being a great new product! A lot of people use the miniram because it is one of the best out there! We will see though how these units compare with different modifications, like forced induction or on different motor combos in the future as more and more people use them. That would be a great magazine tech article! Just like the Scoggin-Dickey's intake manifold, there is a lot more to it than just a manifold. You'll see the price go up with the parts you NEED to make those systems work! True, they will not be as much as the miniram and TPIS is going to have to do something with the prices if they want to remain in the position they are in. Don't get me wrong, the miniram is a great unit and one of the best but the new Holley unit is not just $500 and knowing Thunderracing's markup prices, i am sure you could do better getting it somewhere else! I am happy with my decision, i just want to put in in the car already! good luck with whatever you choose!

thanx bro, we already ordered the stealth ram, $520 on the invoice + shipping we'll see how it works. even if the gain is only 60 HP vs. the Mini Rams 90, it's still bad *** looking. thanx for your help, we both appreciate it
