is it much different from a v6 to v8? since ill be getting a new transmission and motor all at once with wiring... id imagine it wouldnt be too much harder than a conventional v8 into a v6... i searched and didnt find much of anything regarded v6 to lt1... itd be one helluva sleeper though

just wondering before i go out and blow money into something... i know ill need a radiator, suspension, etc. what do i do about gauges? i head the fuel pump from the 2.8 mpfi cars is enough to power a TPI, so would it be enough to power an LT1 too? or do i need another? screw air conditioning... ill probably just rip all that out since its all broken in my car the way it is... dont really care for it, not sure yet. but i heard its so much easier to swap in without it... with the compressor and all having to chop up one of the motor mounts. if i just get a manual for a V6 car... then one for a V8 car... and start splicing, will i be basically set for electronics etc? anyone know where to get a manual for an LT1... i know their floating around here somewhere... if you can email it to me at strangeitalian@hotmail.com

speedo....runs off trans.......thats an easy one

oil pressure......runs off sending unit........should be easy

temp.........runs off ECTS.......should be easy

volts........runs off alt........again should be easy

gas gauge...........should leave it as is

how do people hook up tachs to their LT1s in a 4th gen lt1 car? or how do ppl who have done the swap hooked them up?

what about ignition... i dont know much of anything about it, is it basically easy to wire up the ignition to fire up when you turn the key? ive never had experience with optispark or whatever that LT1s ignition supply is..

thanks for the help man

Need more specifics, is this auto or manual ? What year LT1 are you using ? Get the complete harness with the engine, along with cooling system if you can.

The LT1 harness has a tach output just the same as a 3rd gen, you'll need a V8 cluster, so the tach will work properly, and i believe the 90-92 is electronic speedometer so you'll only need a calibration box for that, each of us have used different ways, there is no set "correct" way for this, you wont need much for suspension, just a normal set of 3rd gen V8 mounts, and if you want the V8 springs, i'd suggest upgrading the fuel pump, and get a TBI underhood harness, it will unbolt at the firewall by the brake booster and give you the correct length wires for starter etc...... Any questions feel free to email me or IM me - AIM - Z28ricer

The tach is easy to wire. All you need to do is get a Haynes manual and find the White wire that hooks to the ECM you have now.
This white wire will connect onto another wire from the LT1 ecm.

Once you're at that point , ask us and I'll be more specific.

There is also a open place to tap for the tach at the coil/module connections.

Rather then going thru the PCM.

Do the output pulses from the 4L60E match up with the 90-92 electric speedo?

There are four types of VSS signals

1. The two-pulse (2000 pulses per mile) square wave (D.C. current or direct current) used on all TBI engines through 1992, all computer-controlled-carbureted engines, and on 1985–1989 TPI engines.

2. A four-pulse (4000 pulses per mile) sine-wave (A.C. current or alternating current) signal is required by the 1990–1993 TPI, 1992–1993 LT1 engines, and 1990–1993 Camaro 3.1/3.4 V6 engines.

3. A 40 pulse per driveshaft revolution speed sensor used on 1993 and newer trucks with automatic transmission, 1994 and newer rear drive cars (Camaro, Corvette, and Caprice) with the automatic transmission.

4. A 17 tooth per driveshaft revolution speed sensor used on 1993–1997 LT1 engines with the Borg-Warner 6-speed transmission. An 11 tooth reluctor ring is used on 1993 LT1 engines with the Borg-Warner wide ratio (3.35 First gear) 6-speed transmission

I posted this in case your car is #1 on this list

If you car is a 3.1 '90 RS then you have #2 on this list and your good too go!

my luck. Damn TBI cars. My swap consists of a 96 LT1/4L60E. I guess its time to do a search on a converter device that will probably take another bite out of my wallet.

Hold up .. Z28racer and I have been debating it .. and we are trying to find out if there is infact a buffer on the TBI cars that converts it either internally in the ecm or external. Either way I think we both agree the TBI cluster is 4K pluse.
