Wife just blew up my 305!!!!!!

Ok so thats what she did, now its time for me to upgrade. I am wanting to put a STOCK 350 back in. I can get one from Recon with a 36 month/unlimited milage warrnty. But when I go to change them out what will I have to replace? Right now I have a ADS stage 3 superchip for a 305. Will this still work with a 350? Knock Sensor and ESC module? Will they have to be change too? I am gonna keep the 305 throttle body, intake and exhaust mans. So what kind of problems am I gonna run into doing this? OR should I just get another WEE-0-5? Let me know please.

PS car is a 89 Formula 305 Vin E 700r4 TBI.

you will need bigger injectors, a 350 chip, knock sensor for a 350 and thats it I believe.

My wife blew mine up not to long ago too, if that makes you feel any better. I was going to replace my 305 TPI w/ a 350, but did a little research. It's not difficult swapping, just takes a little more time and money. Not to mention, you don't get the core charge refunded.

The injectors on the TBI unit do not have be replaced, nor does the ECM. However, you will need a custom PROM installed to make up for the needed increase in fuel. There's lots of info on here about it. The knock sensor will also need to be replaced along with the ESM. Everything else should work just fine, except the water pump. I believe that needs to be changed as well. I'm not sure about the mounting brackets (alt, a/c, p/s, etc..). I never did find anything out about that.

I'm sticking with the 5.0. Saves me time and leaves me a little more money to put back into it. With what I had planned and with the money I had saved, 300+ hp doesn't look so hard to reach.

I swapped the 305 to 350. It's a piece of cake. You don't really need to swap injectors. I put 24lb injectors which made it run a little rich. I also had a aftermarket chip.

My car was an 85' with a MAF so it worked great. You should have the MAP system which may require a recalibrated chip.

My car ran extremely well once I got some of the bugs out despite having an aftermarket cam, heads and intake, exhaust etc.

Don't put a 305 back in! You will be much happier esp. if you plan on future upgrades.

Later,

TB

The water pump is the same for a 305 and a 350, so you can just bolt your old one on. If it's gettin old just replace it, just get a remanufactured one, you don't need an expensive high flow aluminum one.
The stock accesory brackets will bolt right on.
Swap the PROM from a 350 ECM. Late 80's up to 95 trucks and cars with 350's and TBI's have the chip you need, their easy to get, I found a bunch at a junk yard!
The 305 injectors might work, I don't know, I'd get some from a 305 unless your absolutly sire the 305 one's will be ok.
The stock motor mounts bolt right on. I'd replace the rubber piece, it's probably done.
Also you'll need a 350 knock sensor.
All other sensors are the same for a 305 or 350.
Bolt everything else on and your done.

What engine from Recon are you getting? The HP line of motors? What are the specs?

Not gettin a HP motor just a stock 350.......Now the next question I have is.......I am getting one for a 89 Formula 350 which we all know is TPI.........is there any reason why this engine won't work for me? Or do I have to get one from a 350 TBi car?

A 350 TPI should work fine. To have it run at its best it would need a new chip but it would run good as is.

You should replace the knock sensor AND ESC Module:they're a matched set.
350 Sensor:#10456288
350 Module:#16128261
If you're keeping TBI,the injectors:
350 Injectors:#17112493
I did this swap last December.

Just a thought....

You could "cheat" like i did when my Z28s 305 dumped. Instead of doing all of the expensive (for a 16yr old) and time consuming stuff, i just put a good ol' 4-barrel on top of my freshly rebuilt 350.

I know a 4 barrel is not as good for either performance or fuel economy on a 350 as fuel injection is (ie. TBI, TPI) but it was much easier and left me ALOT of room for mods in the future.

BTW, it was an '83 HO, so i already had a 4 barrel anyway. It was gonna be really complicated for my to put in an engine with EFI (or so i thought), so i just stuck with a 4 barrel.

305 to stock 350 is simple. What you need to be happy; 350 Knock sensor, 350 ESC (I'm still using 305 but should change it), 350 injectors, and an ANLU eprom (350 TBI in caprice). Everything else will bolt right back on and in place.
