3.1 to 3.8 swap
3.1 to 3.8 swap
Ok guys im trying to make up my mind here... i need some help.
My 3.1 just isnt cutting it anymore. Im gonne be keeping it for a while longer though. Umm i need to know how hard it would be to install a 3.8 out of a newer bird or camaro. Many people have told me that an LT1 is really hard. Is the six just as hard??? I want atleast 220 hp, and over 20 mpg.. i know thats a lot to ask for, but thats my goal.... Someone please help me out.
thank

As far as I've hear, the 3.8 doesn't have the engine mounts in the same place as the 2.8, 3.1, 3.4 engines. So you'd have to drill new holes for the motor mounts. The LT1 on the other hand mounts in the same place as any 350, and the holes for the motor mounts are already in your engine bay. The 3800 series engine (which is what was in late model f-bodies) was rated at 200 hp, so if you're wanting a minimum of 220, you'd have to do some mods even to the 3.8 to get there.

I remember a while ago someone had asked about this and the general consencious was that the newer 3.8 did not mount in the same location. And of course you'd have other things to consider like OBD II. But if the 3.8 that was in TTAs would have the same mounts, and bolt up to a v6 tranny, that might be the way to go. Although was the 3.8 a 90* V as opposed to the 60* of the 2.8/3.1/3.4 engines?

i figured the newer ones would have different mounts
a 60* V6 700r4 will not bolt up to the 3.8...since the 3.8 is a 90* motor..
