v6 turbo charged VS v8
v6 turbo charged VS v8
i am really interested in v6's lowend power so i was thinking about droping i turbo charged v6 and boring it out. i would like some sugestions,
Do you think i could build it to compete with the "BIG BOYS"?
what would be the best engine to put in there?
or should i just get a v8?
is there such thing as a turbo charged v8?

Turbo Buick Regal 3.8 V6's are legend. Driven to the track, run 11's all night long. However, they didn't do that after driving off the showroom floor.
You've got a 3.1, correct? I assume you're thinking of putting a turbo on that. I don't know that the factory ever did that. Most anything can be done, though, but you aren't likely to see the same results as those Regals (there were a few years of 3.8 turbo TA's, BTW).
Check the power adders forum, many have put centrifical belt-driven superchargers and turbos on many different configurations, including V8's.
i like the v6's lowend power compared to the v8, i was planning on just dropping a whole new engine instead of adding a turbocharger.
what years had the turbo charged engine?
what engine is it, the Buick Regal 3.8?

Using the buick drivetrain requires a/c delete and an aftermarket crossmember. Or you can use the 700 with an adapter plate. Best way to do it is get the drivetrain have it rebuilt with TTA pistons(www.johnsperformance.com) grab the fuel lines, harness, and a set of FWD buick heads 86-89 vintage from the wrecking yard.

For ease of installation the original 6 cylinder 700 can be used, but send it out to get done or it wont last a block. If you use the 700 you wont have to fab or buy a crossmemeber for the tranny. The buick ecm will control the 700 tranny with no problem. Some people tend to believe that the 3.8's run harder with the 700's with the deep 1st gear.

Many V6 3rd gen cars got lower gearing (higher number ratio) compared to a similar model V8 3rd gen (3.08 instead of 2.73, 3.42 instead of 3.08, 3.73 instead of 3.42, etc.). Two late-80's Stang owners I know both came with 5 spd/2.7-ish gears. CAFE, you know.

The swap isn't THAT bad, a few things have to modified, nothing major, If I did it over again I would've done the 200-4r swap at the same time of the motor swap. I like the 7004r now but the steep first gear doesn't put enough load on the motor to get the turbo going, but once it hits 2nd gear look out, the tires get a little smokey
