V6 is dying...scrap it?
I've got a 2.8L MPFI in my 'bird right now.

Right now it's taking a **** whenever I pour water into the radiator. Although this may not be tough to fix...I'm thinking of just scrapping the engine. It has 200k on it...Not worth much to me...
I was keeping it on so I could get it running again before dropping in my 383. I wanted to start tuning the rolling chassis with subframe connectors, roll cage and suspension...and wanted to get a few things layed out before I dropped in the new power plant. But if it takes too much of my time away from the real project...it's not really being very productive, is it?
How much do you think I could sell the V6 for...it's worth something for the core on a rebuild, the induction, and the ignition... right?
Anyway...poll time... keep it or scrap it?

Swap to a V8 thats what im doing or part it out or sell it it would make a good project for a kid like me, Thats how I got mine its an 84 Firebird SE I saved it from the shreder my friend had it in his barn and it didnt have an engine and I asked him what he was going to do with it it was going to the shreder saturday so I had 2 days to save it so I got $100 and saved it So do the right thing and DONT SCRAP IT, put it in your front yard and sell it for a couple hundred dollers and a high school kid will buy it for a winter project

I'm talkin bout the engine...not the car...
I saved this car from the junkyard too. Paid $300 for it and the engine now runs. Problem is that water leak and the 200k miles on her...heh
Good thing I'm buildin' the 383 for this bi*ch

I'd say keep it for now.
Could be something as simple as a bad hose, radiator, or water pump.
Do you really want to totally disable the car while its being worked on? I tried to move one of these around my garage when the bad motor was stripped -- they're heavy as hell and tough to maneuver.
Twenty bucks could make this thing run long enough to tune the chassis, build the motor, etc. so one long weekend is spent doing a motor swap on the fully prepped chassis rather than dropping a motor in a half finished project.

I see your point MDv... It was my reason for keeping the V6 and getting it running in the first place.

There's a pic of this pissing water pump there. Pump is brand new so I either did the gasket job wrong (REALLY wrong), or I need a new timing chain cover.
You're right...probably $20 and a weekend to get her running. But she might have other problems too :-( I do have a vacuum leak that I can't figure out where it goes...lol...
Anyway...despite the poll, at the moment I'm not scrapping it.
