hey guys, ive almost got this 95 Lt1 in my 92 Z28. can the vats be bypassed without an aftermarket module or harness?
i am going to use the 95 harness, and i need to know if i can hook it up any other way. the mechanic helping me thinks he can do it without an aftermarket solution,
and i disagree.
please help me........................again.
thanks

It's practicly impossible if you're not fimiliar with electronics and pulses.
I have a spare module, if You need it, email me. 60$ and it's ready to fit a 3rd gen vats connector, you will need to change the pin layout...

Actually you can. Wish I knew before I bought the module myself. You need to find the VATS module above the radio pod. There is a blue wire that outputs the 50 Hz square wave that you can send to the input on the 95 computer. Cutting this wire may make the "security" light stay on. Having both shop manuals would be handy for this. I could help you more but my manuals are 20 miles away at the gararge Im doing my swap. If the security light stays on you could simply cut the wire going to the light.

i already have a painless kit, and im sending it back. the only reason i bopught ot is that i was told you plug it in the car n go. that was wrong cause then there is stuff in camaro that wont work. i have the stock harness, so i dont need the painless. where can i get just a vats bypass?
CD90RS, that will not work , as soon as you'll turn off the car, you will not be able to restart it anymore. The signal is 5 volt, 400 pulse, 50 hz with a tolerance of 5%. good luck building that.
Sinner, here's what you asked me
You'll need a vats module from Ac delco or from me, I paid 250$ for it .
you'll need to match the existing wires of your car and wire it to the pin layout of passkey II, color code is the same
VATS 16 pin Passkey II
|------------------------|
A8| [] [] [] [] [] [] [] []| A1
B8| [] [] [] [] [] [] [] []| B1

Slot Wire Color Description
A1 Orn Power feed from ECM BAT fuse #4
A2 Pnk Power feed from ECM IGN fuse #5
A3 DK BLU Fuel enable signal
A4 YEL/BLK Starter enable relay control
A5 GRY "Security" indicator lamp control
B5 BLK/WHT Ground
B7 PPL/WHT Ignition key resistor return
B8 WHT/BLK Ignition key resistor feed

Mat, I dont understand what your saying about "building" that. I didn't say anything about building a unit. Use the existing VATS 50hz signal to trigger the LT1's computer. Dana at LT1350.com has verified that this will work. I didn't think it would myself and had bought a bypass module from him. Later on, with a telephone conversion with him, he said if he would of realized I was installing this into a 90 RS he would have made me aware that I didnt need it.

Yes you can bypass it, I'm just not exactly sure what happened. I kept the VATS on my car when I did the swap. A few months later, though, something happened and it just stopped working. We bypassed the VATS and hardwired the fuel pump by grounding the relay. Havent had any problems since. I wired a switch into the relay so that if I need the key on for any reason, I can turn off the pump so its not sitting there running.
VATS is Passkey . Same thing.
If you insert to right key in the ignition, the car will start, if you bypass the module with the same key resistors any key cutted properly to fit the barrel will work.

I knew that VATS and PK are the same thing. My question is I want to swap a engine in a third gen (the new engine is not anything like the old one) the new engine has it's own ECU but I want my VATS to still work like it is MENT to, so if some one had a key cut to fit it WOULDN"T work. So....how do I get this done???
