Hey!
Finally got some pics of my car scanned, I've got threads in a couple other sections of the forum with other pictures, but here's a before and after pic of the engine, tell me what you think!
before

after

I think it's a little bit of an improvement hehe
she's still a work in progress though!
Oh, I almost forgot! here's a couple of pics in the middle
stripping the engine bay and trying to figure out wiring

no engine in mine, but dad's is ready to go

let me know what you think!

Some more pics:
Here's the engine going together

Here she is on the stand (that's a 305 TPI on the right, it'll eventually be going into my friend's dad's '86 ElCamino)

And here she is going in!

Sorry for the abundance of pictures, but it's the first time I've posted any and I wanted to get a few in

Looks good, but how does it run?
Seriously, it looks very nice. One day I'll have a 350 in mine.
Is it just me, or does the air cleaner look like it's tilted forward a little? Is it hitting the distributor?

Thanks AJ, It runs great, I just need to get the carb dialed in, and fix a couple oil leaks.
I haven't actually checked it since I put the motor in, but I don't think the air cleaner is hitting the distributor. Good point though, I'll check on it

Yep, stock hood closes fine, no problem whatsoever, although I did drive it around a little without the hood when I first got the motor in
Maybe it's ok because I have the "power bulge" hood? I don't know. Which hood do you have?

that looks really sharp... question though, how did you get the alternator and other accessories so clean? are they the same ones or are they different?

Thanks! The alternator is the original one, in that picture, I just repainted the casing with aluminum paint. The waterpump is a replacement Weiand unit which I also painted with aluminum paint. The alternator has since been replaced with a higher output one, which has an ugly fan on it, but does keep the battery charged lol
I love that aluminum paint though
hehe, it looks great, but it's not lasting well on the water pump...oh well, such is life. Keep the comments coming!

edit/P.S. If you notice the difference in the appearance of the inner fenders between the two pictures that's because before it had that Rusty Jones crap all over it, while the engine was out a friend of mine helped me clean it all off with straight gas. It took some elbow grease and the garage smelled pretty ripe when we were done, but the results were great, there was near perfect, very glossy paint underneath that gooey yucky junk!

Man, that looks great! only one small minor little thing I would suggest, a nice set of wire looms, and maybe one of those K&N Xtreme flow air lids... I know... that is actually 2 things....
Really man, awesome job!

Thanks knoxbonnie! I've got a set of Moroso looms on it now, when I took that pic I didn't even have the radiator hooked up yet (no tranny yet either lol). The guy who helped me build the motor gave me the Moroso looms that bolt on with the valve cover bolts, they neatened things up quite a bit! I'll look into the K&N too, I've thought of it, but can't decide if it'd look good in my engine compartment
Thanks for the comments! Keep 'em coming!

P.S. I have a heater & A/C box in the firewall now, I didn't in those pics though

Hey, very nice. I can't wait till I get started on mine!
Hey, my view is, that if the engine doesn't fit under the hood, put a shaker on it. I'm actually debating doing it too! Thenm I'll have a Vortec 383 w/a Shaker. Hell yeah!! Oh, very nice looking car! How's that higher output alternator workin' for 'ya?

Hey! Thanks again for more comments! On the overflow and windshield washer bottles: I will probably try to clean them or get new ones at some point, when I get around to it lol...Will Simple Green really work to clean them out? On the alternator: It's working great! I got a 94 amp one (not sure what the old one was) and now I can drive the car at night with the headlights, radio, and electric cooling fan on and it'll still start the next day!
With the old alternator I went out one night and when I tried to start it the next day all I got was *click click click click click* Haven't had that happen since I put the new alternator on, so I'd say it's working just right! haha
And everything still fits under the hood, so I'll keep running my "power bulge" hood (actually called a "turbodome" in the GM shop manual lol
) Thanks again for the comments, keep 'em coming!!!!!!

According to Holley's dyno test that motor configuration puts out 425 hp at 6150 rpm and 425 ft lbs of torque at 4250 rpm. You can check out the kit at http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLin...K/300-503.html I am not 100% sure about my compression ratio though, so I may not be putting out the full potential of the cam and heads, along with the fact that I am only running a 600 cfm carb on it currently. I do know, however, that she's definitely got some kick, especially teamed up with the T-56 and 3:73 gears out back
I love it! Thanks for the comment! Keep 'em coming!

Forget the Simple Green, both the fluid and antifreeze bottles brand new were like $20 Canadian here.....so REALLy cheap. Buy new, compliment the bitchin' engine.
