l98 to lt1 swap

I was looking at getting a new engine for my 91 Z28. My engine now is L98 and has over 160k miles one it. I found a Lt1 from a 94 formula for a good price. What about swapping that into the car? Would it be better to just rebuild the l98 with some performance parts such as heads cam, maybe stroker? different intake? The Lt1 by far would be cheaper though. Although if I recall correctly that engine only has 275 hp and less tq than my l98?

I am sure this is a stupid question that has been asked a million times. I tried doing a search but the search option is down now. Anyways someone offer some advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Is it really that practical to swap an l98 for an lt1, or is it not worth the effort. I know for a fact that my friends 95 formula will smoke my ***...

If you have the LT1, i would deffintly swap it in.....I dont know a lot about either engine really, but i think the LT1 will respond a little better to bolt on mods. I like to be a little different, so i would go with the LT1, more and more people are getting them, but there still way less common the the L98. I think you can mod the L98 and Lt1 for about the same money.

Hope this helps, i wish i knew more so i could give you facts, instead of just opinions.

good luck

thanks pskel350 for droping a line. having an lt1 in a 3rd gen does sound kinda cool too. I know that the intake is alot better in it, so I figure that will be needed alot for other mods.

is your l98 carb or injected. if injected tpi cfi? it all depends the lt1 is stronger and faster than all of those motors. lti is cheaper and has more bolt ons. if carb. then that can be built faster and stronger pretty cheap. and carb. sounds better

the l98 engine is the 350 tpi. and I heard that 87 and up trannys were built pretty strong so I think it should hold up to the lt1. and about my fuel pump. I just had a new one put in. I'm not certain of the capacity of it, because I had someone else put it in, but non the less it is a new one. Can I keep that fuel pump and will it feed enough fuel to the engine?

even the 87 up transmission is not that strong...however a stock LT1 has less TQ then a L98, and TQ is what kills a trans. Your tranny should be fine behind a LT1. Your fuel pump will be able to keep up no problem. TimTpi made a good point, get all the wires and computer.
