454 BBC in '89

I have been seriously thinking about dropping a 454 BBC into my 89 IROC-Z. I would like to know what anybody that has done this did to their car so it would accept a big block. I would like to know everything that you did especially mods to the body and mods to things like fuel pump, fuel tank, etc. The only body mod I have done to my car is a 4 inch Harwood Cowl Induction Hood. Thank you for all the help.

Start by doing a search through the archive. The question about dropping a BBC into a third gen is asked at least once a week.

You know guys, we've been saying the question is asked once a week for the last year. That means there hasn't been any information about it for about a year. Maybe we can make a tech section for big block swaps and put some stickies up top with all the info.

I agree with Qwiktrip..All 3 of your websites provides a lot of information but still could use more..My main concern is the cutting/welding stuff..Though its described very well, pictures would make it a lot easier..

Are you serious about putting a BBC in your car Daz? Let the guys on the board know, if you are. I know I, for one, would love to watch the process/give a hand.

The only cutting/fabrication is installing the hooker headers. If you use cast iron manifolds or spend the money on a better header, it's a direct drop-in swap.

If you use tall valve covers, there may be some interferance problems with the wiper motor.

Telling you want's involved means nothing if you don't want to attempt the swap. Once anyone is sure they're going to do the swap, questions about how to do something becomes easier.
