383 Swap

Well, I've got all of my parts and the shortblock. Been tinkering with it a bit (school's been keeping me away from it). Put my heads on, and put the camshaft in. Found out when I tested the rotation that the camshaft is hitting the rodbolts. Talked to comp cams, they're going to send me the same grind cam with a smaller base circle. BTW, the cam is the XR282HR. Hopefully I can really start working on it since my midterms are over. I'm also swapping from TBI to carb, trying to wake up my little RS. I think after the motor is installed I'll try my hand at putting in a T56, or I might keep it auto, haven't decided yet. If anybody wants to give me some words of wisdom they'll be greatly appreciated.

I put a 383 in my Trans am and I can tell you that all the work is worth it. for a 383 you really should have at least sub frame connectors but you really should almost have(at least 6 point) a roll bar in the car. 383 are real torqers and could really hatch up your car in a hurry if it is not prepared for the extra torq. chassis strengthing is very important with a 383 and what ever you do don't waste your time with a roll bar with swing out bars. they will not do anywhere near as much for your car as a REAL roll bar will. if you have a one wheel wonder under the rear you are def going to want to swap it out for a posi if at all possible. I don't think the pass side axle could handle the extra power at all for very long.
not a necessity but I put in an entire new set of Autometer pro comp guages to keep an acurate eye on things also I can't say enough good things about the B&M Megashifter!!!! this shifter really is the bomb. so nice to use I absolutely love it. if I had a stock 3rd gen and was only going to do 1 mod to it then it would be the Megashifter, I very highly recomend it.

The Megashifter! No doubt, man. One of the best mods I did to my car. I had planned on putting in a 4th gen rear, I would like to see pics of one in a 3rd gen first. I know they stick out a bit, just don't know how it looks. I am def going to get SFC's, not sure about a roll cage, unless I really need it.
