2.8 to 350

hey wuz up guys let me make this short and brief cause i'm in my accounting class right now I own a 1985 camaro sport coupe with the 2.8 multi port injection. the 2.8 has a broken connecting rod so i decided to swap it for a 350 . The problem being that i've never done it. A friend of mine has offered to let me use his race car garage which has all the tools i need and will help me build a engine and put it in. Can you guys tell me what i need to make the swap easier and what i need to swap out of the car , and what i need to swap in like coil springs , mounts, radiator, transmission, etc. Oh yeah the engine is going to be carburated so will there be a problem with emissions. If you guys can help me i will be really appreciated:hail: thanks Ray

Get a factory V8 donor car, and switch over everything that is different between the two that relates to the engine (all the parts you mention are included, and more).

As far as emissions, the only "legal" carb is a computer-controlled q-jet. So, your donor car will have to be an '85, '86, or '87 carb'd V8.

Since the factory never made a 3rd gen with a carb'd 350, you won't be using the engine from your donor car if you want a 350. The advice is still the same: Get a factory V8 donor car for all the parts you're going to need, just use the 350 that you're going to get from wherever when you put it back together with the other donor car parts.

Most likely, this '85-'87 factory V8 donor car will have the LG4 305. The exhaust on those cars were terrible, so don't use it; buy all new headers, cat, and cat-back for the '86-'90 TPI single cat application. You'll be much happier.

Technically, a carb'd 350 isn't emissions-legal. Put the under-hood stickers from the factory V8 donor car on your car, and conveniently "forget" to mention to the emissions inspector that it now has a 350 in it - they look the same, externally.

Under the hood, there are emissions information and typically vacuum routing decals. After the swap, you should have the decals to go with the engine combo you've got.

The right place to get the q-jet is from the donor car.
