Beaten to death topic, i know
I am about to buy my donor car(87 formula L98) so i can pull the engine and drop it in my 91 bird(3.1 liter)
I only have a few questions, i did a search, but my question is more year specific.
First of, i know that buying a donor car is the way to go. We will be pulling the motor, trans, rad, front springs(brand new)harness and all the little things we need.
I know the 87 is Mass air flow. So i have worked out a deal with a friend of mine to trader the body of the formula for a 91 SD setup(acces and all).
Will the 87 have the serpentine setup,i looked but now i forget?
Will it be hard to switch the SD setup and acces. over to the other engine?
After everything is switched over, will i run into problems hooking my AC back up. I have to AC
I know my tach will be diff. Can i just use the tach from the formula?
And i assume the speedo of the formula is mechanical, and my 91 is electronic, can i just change that part on the trans?
If anyone can help me out with these issues, i would greatly appreciate.

1987 Cars are V-belt. Not serpentine. The SD swap shouldn't be so bad if you get the ECM and everything out of the donor car. As far as the AC goes you can do it but it is a pain in the ***. As far as the guages I can't tell you. Hope this helps.

Use the SD wiring harness when you put it together. What all accessories are you switching over? On '87, the alt. is on the psgr side, where the newer ones they were on the driver side, so you'll have to get the brackets, too. Your AC can be put back on. You may (and probably will) have to get different AC lines to hook up the compressor and condensor. If your tach on the '91 is in the same spot, you should be able to interchange it fairly easily after you get the gauge clusters out of the car. You can take the '91 speedo unit off and put it on the V8 trans, it should interchange. If you use a SD harness then it should already have the wiring for the electronic speedo. If not, you'll have to wire it up yourself.

BTW the 87 formula is a electric speedo car. The birds got an electric speedo 3 years before the 'maros.
