First impressions of the Lt1 Swap.

Well, I actually put a good 30 miles on the car today after getting an alignment and the exhaust put on. So far so good. It runs quite well. All in all, this wasn't a very difficult swap. A bit expensive to get done but worth it I think. One thing I'm disappointed about is the exhaust sound. I have Hooker headers, Catco convertor and the 3" American Thunder system but it's not as loud as I had hoped. Actually, it's quiet. I still have a few things I need to take care of like an air filter system, the A/C & cruise and one of the auxillary radiator fans is bent causing it to vibrate violently. I have it disconnected and it never gets hot at all. Also, the speedo and reverse lights aren't hooked up yet because I haven't recieved my Dakota Digital box yet. For those of you that don't know what I got, it's an '87 Trans Am that was originally carbed with a t5. I put in a '94 Vette Lt1, '93 Z28 T56 and '93 Z28 rear end. I also completely updated the suspension with BMR, Eibach, KYB and Moog components. Stopping power comes via SSBC 1LE kit. This is a huge improvement. The body will come over the winter so I can have some fun this summer. Maybe next year I'll try an Ls1 swap

The motor originally came with a 4l60e and after doing some research, I found out the F-body t56 from 93 on up would work with no problem and it did. I really didn't want the 93 t56 but I got it for a great deal and couldn't pass it up. I ended up at a junk yard that had an engine and transmission barn. I saw this thing sitting there and the tag said 93 t5 I knew it was a 6 speed and ended up paying about $100 for it with the junk yard thinking they just sold me a t5 If I had the Vette 6 speed, then yes, it would have been the ZF version.

Trans Am#5, I just did my swap(as U know) My mods are in my sig., but i feel as thou there could be alittle more power coming out at the wheels. I figured with the money and time spent the tires should be on the floor. My rear is the stock 2.73(with drums), my neighor was able to find me a set of disc's and 3:42's from a 98 camaro. I'm hoping to instal them soon and see a better neck snapping difference. Right now the motor is new so I'm not beating on it... just going to ride it thru until next winter and see what else can go on. Do you know if Paxton could fit in the engine bay w/o any issues?

My exhaust is set well, I have the slp headers, with the 3" catco cat, and 3" flowmaster 2 chamder - I'm liking it. Maybe the SLP "Loud Mouth" is more what your looking for?

You may need to get the computer tuned also but it would be a waist until you get the gears in because the programmer can compensate for that and adjust the speedo. Mine was done by Madwolf over at www.camaroz28.com. He's a great guy and mention to him that he did mine if you decide to go with his services. Huge difference as the original 9C1 4l60E program was not really too good for my application. I just got the stuff to start trying to tune it myself but I haven't sat down to figure it all out just yet. I haven't done any really 'hard' driving yet either but I did manage to leave a patch the length of my alley through about 1/4 of 2nd gear though. I'm going to leave the exhaust alone for now but SLP may be just what I'm looking for. I can't remember how my 95 Formula felt compared to this thing because it's been so long since I drove a car like that but I did notice it definitely likes above 2 grand on the tach better than anything lower. I haven't really revved higher than that yet.
