Lt1 or L98

Well guys my 350 is about had it. It was carbed and i really dont like carbs. So i was jsut wondering how much it would cost to get an l98 or lt1 in the 310-320rwhp. I see some on ebay and such for about 2000 w/trans. But, i also see people with l98s with those numbers. Just wondering what u guys think would be the best setup to go for. No crate motors. Also, gas milage would be nice if it was in the 15-16 mpg range if possible. any and all ideas wanted :-)

LT1! It is already closer to what you are looking for than a L98. You can easily achieve high horse power with a L98 but you will sacrifice economy.

You should get more than 320 with heads and cam.. I kept my LT1 bolt ons only.. and it is pretty darn powerful.. in the area here there is a bolt on Z that is running 12s..

I'll be at the dyno in the near future and will give out some numbers.. LT1 you won't be sorry.. heck even without the power the gas mileage makes me happy! 23mpg.

With my LT1, which has long tubes, cai, some crap removed and custom programming. I get 27 mpg on the highway with 3.08 rearend, and the 4L60E trans.

I hear some guys getting 32-33 mpg with 6 speeds on the highway, with that 0.5 overdrive gear.

I'm probably in the 26-28 range with a 93 T56(different gearing) and 3.42 rear end. I'd be even better but I'm always hittin' the gas and having fun. I was going to go with 3.73's but I think traction problems will hurt more than they'll help. The car lays a decent patch even when hitting 3rd

if you're worried about gas mileage dont be. I've got close to 400 flywheel horsepower and I easliy get about 18 mpg city, 25 mpg highway with 3.42 gears and a T-5.

Trans Am: thanks, but thats an old photo. I actually have the ECM mounted there now. The MSD box is now mounted on a plate under the plastic around the hood latch.

jdrafke: if you plan on keeping the LT1 fuel injection system then yes you have to keep the optispark.

K so with an lt1 w/ about 65,000 miles and 4l60e(1800-2000), an lt4hot cam kit(450), lt1 aluminum heads w/ stage 1 porting(500) u think i could hang with an ls1. U know then add like an air foil and little things later but i was just wondering if the cam and heads would be enough. Also, what kind of gains would an lt4 intake give over the lt1 one. Sorry for all the ? thanks guys

You'll hang with an LS1 but if that LS1 has a cam or is otherwise modded you'll get a great view of its hind end..

That said.. LT4 hotcam with mild porting should give you 330-350 rwhp.. that is probably on the low side of the estimate..
