I think you would be disappointed with the 3.4. You won't be gaining much power (40hp?) which to me isn't worth it to do a motor swap. I'd save up some money and swap in a strong 350, you'll be much happier with that. I been on these boards for a while and I've never seen a post that said "WOW, I just swapped in a 3.4 from a 3.1, and I've got sooo much more power!", however I hear that almost weekly from people who swap their V6's our for 350's.

depends on the year of the car, i just finished my swap from a 3.1 to a 350 tpi in a 92 camaro. you can use the same ecm for the 90-92 years, just buy a new prom for the 350. you can also use your old wiring loom if you have the connectors to go on the 350. you can also use the same fan setup. you need a radiator and exhaust, also mounts and trans. actually if you go automatic trans youll need a whole new one. with a manual you can use the trans but youll need a special clutch and a v8 bell housing.
go for the 350, might as well go ***** out

It would be like me swapping my LG4 305 (150hp) out for an L69 305 (HO, 180hp). Definitely not worth my time, money or effort. However swapping out my LG4 for a 450hp/530tq 406 is worth it....
You would be very happy with a healthy 350, I would reccomend looking at the Vortec heads, RPM intake, XE268 cam setup. It will produce 400hp and still have very good street manners. I would also go with a carbed setup and ditch the factory FI (TPI/TBI) which can hardly feed a stock 305, let alone a 400 horse 350. With that you'll need an HEI distributor (I have a couple laying around if you're intrested, I'll give you a good deal). For the transmission I would reccomend a 5 speed (WC from a V8 car) since they're more fun than autos, but if you want an auto you can stick with the 700R4 (again from a V8 model).
You would be very happy with that setup, and since it's more of a budget swap, you'll have plenty of cash to spend on other mods...
