350 dipstick?
Hey, i gotta question:
I have a 350 that came out of a '79 Z28, meaning it has a drivers side dipstick. As it is now, the tube is bent in a sorta Z-shape and I made a dipstick that does work (made it with a speedo cable).
Now.. Even though I did do an oil change to mark the dipstick (drained, filled with 4qts and marked "low", added 5th and marked "full") I'm still uncertain about how accurate it is, and because if what it is made of and it dark color (the cable) it makes it really hard to read.
I have a Mr. Gasket dipstick and tube thats meant for a '65-79 sbc drivers side dipstick. It will work on my 350.
The question is: since this dipstick has exactly the same dimentions (tube length, blade length, etc) to the 350's original dipstick, will I be able to kinda pinch the tube between the head and manifold (stock '83) and still have enough tube above the manifold to put the dipstick in and have it go all the way in?
I've seen it pinched like this on a friend's 4x4 (350-4 speed transplant) and it works for him, but the tube and dipstick is alot longer.
