lt3 engine??

I am shopping around to get a new engine put in my firebird. One of the mechanics told me I should put a lt3 engine in. I know what an lt1 is... but what is an lt3?

Yeah an LT5 would be a killer swap. Dual overhead cammed 350, where does one even aquire an LT5?

I am with the pack here on never hearing of an LT3. Maybe your mech was mistaken...

I dont think you really can because they were limited production only found in corvettes ZR1 series. They were only around for a few years if I remember right.

You can get them on Ebay. A guy had a crate 95 LT5 with a crate ZF6 for $15,500. Awesome price for the combo since both were brand new in the crates.

There is still an LT5 on ebay. Saw it just yesterday. I think $9900 takes it. Great price. There was also a ZF6 tranny for $3800. If I was not buying a house, I would bid on it.

there is a lt3

a lt3 engine is 4 cylinder, multi port electronically injected, single overhead cam, with a turbo, gm engine.

however, for a thirdgen, i wouldnt put a lt3 in it. find an lt5.

the lt2 is the lt3 except the turbo. i dont belive in mechanics, but i have heard a lot of good stuff about dyno don. most mechanics are full of it. this weekend my dads car broke down 20 miles from home. the mecanic we took it to closer to where it broke down wanted 500 dollars to fix a part the wasnt broke. i walked across the street to kragen, got a fuel filter, put it in and drove off.

I once got pulled over by a wyoming state trooper driving a 1997 Camaro Z28 B4C. he BSed cars with me for a minute, saying several times that his corvette LT-3 in his camaro was great.. he loved driving it for work...

I just smiled, and agreed, afteral he let me off with a warning.
