88 305 to 85 350 questions & HELP
Hi,
I have an 88 Camaro 305 vin E (TPI) and was wondering if I could take a 350 from an 85 SS Monte Carlo the Monte Carlo originally had a 305 vin G.
It is a rebuilt with 15,000 miles on it. It is carb vs the TPI.
Will the engine fit?
What should I be looking for or concerned with?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Please email me at onedale@aol.com or respond to this message.
Thanks again,
Dale

How much of the engine did you want to swap over?
If just the long-block, it will fit (slight modification of the TPI base center two bolt holes each side required).
If engine, carb & all, bunches of work ahead of you, swapping over what controls things.

I guess that was the real question.
I would like to swap as much as the motor as possible but would also like to take the less complex path.
Based on the comment it appears the less complex path is that I should keep the TPI from the 305 on the 350 by adding the two holes.
My research in this put a little fear in me when I thought about swapping to the carb vs the TPI. I am not the engine expert as many of you are, and greatly appreciate you sharing your expertise with me. I am not afraid of the work and I do know my way around cars but I have always been better at body work than engines.
Any other suggestions, questions or thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Dale

If your injection was an 88 TPI Mass air system, even though it was for a 305 you can just pretty much bolt these on to mild 350s, after modifying the bolt holes. And the system will work pretty well without changing anything else. A TBI system I do not think is as versatile and you might need to change a few things First before even trying,(injectors, prom and whatever else). I am not a TBI guru myself but I am sure someone knows the answers, if not, try posting on the TBI message board for the experts there. Chances are you could do a search and find all the info you need about doing a 350 swap.
Good Luck!
