Ok... recently I've been building up my 305 (was L69) in my head and on paper. No actual uhh... anything... done to the motor yet. This is all theoretical. I just wanted to see what you guys think of this setup. I'm not hoping for obscene numbers, but want to get about 250-300hp and 300-325 ft-lbs.
Specs:
- 305 sbc block, bored .030" over (310ci)
- #416 casting heads with 1.94/1.5 valves, cleaned up ports
- Edelbrock Performer intake
- 750cfm 4bbl carb
- Hedman shorty headers (1-5/8")
- Flat top pistons
Cam:
- .485"int/.489"exh lift
- 114* LSA
- Duration: 215*int./218*exh.
How does this look to you guys? It will be driven on the street, not raced too often (Autocross in summer), but I want something with some ***** too.
I am open to suggestions.

Sounds like you'd be able to get that but why a 305 and not a 350? The 750cfm carb sounds like a little much to me, 650cfm would be just right(I've seen the aftermath of a to big carb lol).

What happened with that carb, Caddi?
And I wanna use my 305 because it is the original block to an '83 L69 car.
That, and I just like the 305. I know the 350 will make more power, and thats what is in my car now, but I just liked the L69 alot.
I dont really know what it is, but I just have a "thing" for the smaller small blocks, like the 305, 302 and the 283. I do love my 350 (The torque is addictive, lol) but I like the high-rpm horsepower of a high-strung 283 or 302. My L69 was alot like that, and I want that back again

I could understand putting together a ballsy 302 but not a 305. Well whatever floats your boat. I agree that a 750 carb is way to much. Go with a 600 cfm carb. Even on a 350 that is stock or very mild a 750 is still to big. If I were you I would look in to the World Products S/R heads for a 305. I read a build up of a 305 in Chevy High Performance and they had good results with the world heads. Actually, they hit 13s with juice in the quarter on there project 305 Third Gen, can't remember the year off hand. Maybe something to look into, better flow than stock and very affordable. Cam sounds good, is it a roller? If not go with the roller less friction means more power and RPM...
Have fun...

I think you will be overcarbourated also. 600-650 is more reasonable. Do you have to pass emissions?
I would consider more lift. The rest of the cam specs look good.

Ok... I agree, that setup is over carbed... 650 it is then
Nope, no need to pass emitions, so I can go wild with this stuff as far as emitions is concerned.

Well.... I always thought a carb that was too big just ran like crap 'till a certain rpm, then wound out like crazy... didn't think it'd go up in smoke, lol.
And yea.. I was thinking of maybe getting a custom grind.
Anyone know how accurate Engine Analyzer 3.0 is? especially for cam specs? Just curious... I've taken all of your recomendations (smaller carb, more lift, etc etc) and got around 295hp/310ft-lbs.
This is with the build listed about but a slightly bigger cam and a 650 cfm 4bbl.

'nother question for you guys...
Would a 383 stroker kit be worth while on this engine? It makes something like 340ci on a 305 block, right?

With a 305 block bored .030 over and a 3.75" stroke crank you get 335. I once considered this but decided to wait and get another block instead.

Unless you haev a 400 crank and rods lying around for nothing I wouldn't bother stroking a 305, Too much $ not enough power.
And have you though about 5l vortec heads? They require a special intake but from what I have heard they flow like 350 vortecs.
