Swapping 305 to a 454 is it possible?
ok im a newbie here, i own a 1985 Trans Am i think it is a gta, i have the 305 4bbl.
with an automatic tranny.
I was wondering if it is possible to get rid of the 305 and put in a 454 with a manual transmission, if so what will i need to replace, and what type of improvement should i expect your feedback will be apreciated.

I don't think it can be done with a typical big block 4 speed tranny because there is no torque arm mount.
But yes, the 454 will drop in.

It can be done with any tranny that will bolt to the block. What you need is a diffrent torque arm and www.jegs.com is the only place that has the correct one that I know of. The Jegs arm mounts to the floorpan of the car, not the tranny. Also easiest way to hook up the clutch on a older 4 speed(like a saginaw or muncie) would be to get a hydralic throw out bearing and get the pedals and clutch master cylinder off a stick 3rd gen.
