someone tell me whats under here...
i bought my third gen ('91 camaro to be exact) about a year ago from a close friend who told me that he had just rebuilt the engine...now i have no idea anything about engines so when i look under the hood i dont know whats going on other than that the stuff under there obviously is not stock. can someone tell me from what you can see what is aftermarket and what is not because i would really like to know when people ask me (especially once i start trying to sell it) what all is rebuilt. thanks a lot if you can help me at all.

pretty much totally impossible to tell from those pictures. Looks all stock to me. If it's been rebuilt at all usually the easiest way to tell is to look for RTV sealant around the intake.

well it looks bone stock except for possibly a K&N replacement filter and some underhood detailing (the red air cleaner lid). you sig is mentions something about yourt car being an RS and modified Z28. this is not possible, your car is either an RS (most likely) or a Z28. not both. you also mention "dual flows". are you saying that this car has dual exhaust with 2 flowmaster mufflers (one for each exhaust bank)? these cars do not have true dual exhaust stock. they have a single intermediate pipe that feeds into a muffler with 2 tail pipes. now thats not to say someone, could have put it on, but i think in this case it is unlikely. but i could be wrong.
yea youre right
im sorry yea that signature is misleading it is an RS but it has a body kit that made it look exactly like a z28 so we put z28 emblems on it....i need to specify that in my sign. but im too lazy...as for the air cleaner lid i just painted it myself and i also figured that the pictures wouldnt be good enough to tell anything. the only other thing that i know is replaced is the alternator because i just put that in myself as well, and obviously the filtercharger because i know k&n is an aftermarket company. oh well maybe ill take it to someone just to make sure that i really am gonna get that 100,000 miles out of it that i was told.
and as for the exhaust...
it was just a straight y-pipe flowmaster with no muffler or catalytic converter up until about a month ago when i had those two parts welded onto it for state inspection purposes...i dont even know what i meant by "dual flows" that was retarted.

u dont really know what you're talking about with your 'straight y-pipe flowmaster with no muffler or cat' either but you'll learn. Hang around here and read some and you'll get a better idea of what your car is all about.

How do ya know if its got 210 hp?? It really does have 210 hp and its a 91 rs then maybe its not stock. But tell us how you got that figure first.

Unless you are talking about the high rise spoiler or hood, but both aren't classified as a body kit...
IF that HP number is true, then it has to be modified 305 TBI...
I don't think someone would swap in a 350 and leave all the stock components on the engine.....especially the air cleaner assembly

ok
ive already made a complete *** of myself and proven to you all that i know nothing about this stuff. but i already said that in my first post....i figure i was interested enough in camaros to get one so i guess thats a start. but ill tell you what i do know just from what the guy who sold it to me (which i remind you is a good friend so i know he wouldnt bull**** me):
it is a 305 and he said it gets 215 horsepower i dont know how but i definetly believe it because it drives like nothing else ive ever driven. i have taken what Regaplanet said to heart and i do plan on sticking around here and its amazing what you guys have already taught me about these cars. but i would really like to know if this engine is really as upgraded as the guy who sold it to me said it is...its not that i dont trust him because the car has 159k miles on it and i havent had any serious problems with it yet...just stuff like the alternator, hatch motor, air conditioning, etc. but yea i guess im just looking to learn something about whats under the hood until i get into the classes next summer. thanks a lot.

find out from your friend what modifications he has done to it and get him to show you. HP figures are relative without an actual dyno to prove it. At least from there you can figure out where to go with your next mods with suggestions from us on what works best.

A rebuilt 305 TBI probably won't last 100k more miles without one or two more rebuilds. My suggestion is do yourself a favor and start saving up now for a new motor or some major mods when the time comes for your next rebuild. By the way, when you say that this car is the fastest you've driven with 215hp, what else have you driven?

no
i didnt mean it was the fastest ive driven with 215 horsepower i meant it was faster than any other third gen or camaro at all for that matter...which leads me to believe that it certainly has more horsepower than a stock engine....
also, when you say "start saving for a new motor," you make it sound like no thing. but unfortunately i would never be able to afford that. actually the whole reason im asking these questions is to see if i really can get 100k more miles out of it, because if i cant im gonna have to sell it and get a cheaper car because the way things are going now i will never have it paid off.

It does look like a 5L TBI engine. When he rebuilt it, what parts did he put in it? If you could find out, then we really could tell you what kind of power it should make.
