Considering L67 SC3800 Series II
I'm considering buying the neighbors 1999 Buick Regal GSX (Supercharged 3800 series II). It was sideswiped. Does anyone know if the block have enough material to mount a starter in RWD configuration? The block is a 90* engine with a 60* Style tranny bolt pattern. Also, does anyone know if the engines computer could run the 4L60-E from a 3.8L 4th gen camaro?
I know the throttle body is on the drivers side of the transverse mounted engine (rear part of the Roots blower) . I already have a cowl induction hood so there wouldn't be much of a problem mounting an air filter near the firewall. I'm considering to pull my 350 and using it for my truck. You'll all probably think I'm crazy but I'm starting to believe that the Buick engine would still provide plenty of power for a daily driver. An no I will not sell my thirdgen because I hate econoboxes!

This swap had been talked about but as far as I know no one has even attempted it.If you get the car really It might be worth doing the swap just for uniqueness.

No, not crazy. I'll be doing an L36 swap this winter. The 3800 Series II blocks are the same block FWD or RWD, sostarter location isn't an issue. I also have the tranny, ecm & engine harness (makes it slightly easier). It "should" drop in no problem, except for the engine mount brackets. The pass side looks regular, the drivers side, is,....... different. mIght need to have it fabbed up. If you get yours done before I do, make an extra set of brackets, I'll buy it from ya
. Not sure on the different tranny w/the GTP ecm. you got me there. mIght want to try turbobuick.com or even clubgp.com for answer. Also, make sure your rear is up to par also. The GTPs have a roughly 3.23 final drive. not sure what you have, but I have 3.42. Might need a recalibration, depending on what rear the car had origonally. I think you might need the SCU2000, to compensate for gears, or send out the ecm to Digital Horse POwer for recalibration.
Good luck. I've een seen pics of a GTP motor ina 4th gen camaro/Firebird, but don't remember the link
edit: Here's what I havce so far

Hi Project 85
It's good to know that somone is interested in the same project.
I'll check out that grand prix website you suggested.
:yourock:
You said that the starter mounting location wouldn't be a problem, that's good to know. My rear axle is also 3.42. The FWD exhaust manifolds seem a little tiny. Also, since the heads are different between normally aspriated engines and supercharged engines do you think it is likely the exhaust ports are different? If they were the same it would be easy to use a complete exhaust kit from the 4th gen 3800. I'll probably have someone fabricate some motor mounts. If I can't afford to make another pair I'll still be more than happy to share the specs and some pictures of the mounts if I go through with the swap. Its very tempting since the laws here in california are getting stricter with emissons. They complain about my missing egr even though it is deleted with the emissions legal zz3 swap. I guess these ASE certified techs can't read the e.o. number on the catalyst chart.

Difference in heads is the injector location only. Also, read this Zoomers' GTP 11.244@123.44 . Do the similar mods in a lighter car like ours
Forgot to mention, I also have a hook up for a VATS bypass, and from what I also hear, the VSS freq should be the same as the newer fangled dashes
and yeah, those **** CARB Cali pukes suk
