GoAutoCenter's 300HP TPI Engine

300HP TPI Engine 87-89
Whats everyones opinion on this motor? I'm thinking this would be my best bet to replace my high miled 305 TPI. I figure, buy this motor, drop it in with all my accessories from the 305, the TPI off the 305(bigger injectors down the road) and have a chip made. I alos think I'll be dropping this in mated to a Tremec TKO Trans. Do you guys think this is a good setup? Also, been thinking about converting it to a splayed 4 bolt main, since its only a 2 bolt, and I may supercharge it down the road.

I bought one almost two years ago.
It currently has over 40,000 miles on it with no troubles and it runs great and makes lots of torque.
In my opinion, though, if you're gonna use a power adder (supercharger or nitrous), I'd get a 4 bolt with forged pistons (like the ZZ shortblock) and put some afr 190's on it.

btw: I'm using a Tremec TKO as well.

I have been looking for the zz shortblock but have not been able to find it anywhere. Do you know a site that has them for sale?

I like mine. I have almost 400 miles on it so far, and it is running great. I ended up having to buy a scantool to get it tuned, but that was the best 140 I ever spent.

1992-93 Caprice, Fleetwood 5.7L / 350 GM Goodwrench Crate Engine $15xx.xx
I bought this motor from SD 2 years ago and put it in my son's truck. Back then the motor cost around $1375.00. If I were you, I would look at Scoggin-Dickey's website and check it out. The price is much lower and appears to be same engine. Put a ZZ4 cam in it for $184.95, and you've got a very nice motor for under $2000!!!! The oil pan comes with a stupid oil level sensor hole, you'll have to plug up.

Instead of plugging up the oil level hole, could i use my old oil pan off the 305? Pan is in excellent shape.
