gm chip
I bought the GM 350 ho performance zz4 prom for my 1984 lg4/part number 24502457. My intention was to put a 350 in and install the chip. I came to find out later the prom ignores egr. I was fooled by the emissions legal kit woording on the 10185077 conversion kit. what problems would be created if any and the solution. Olso to mention I'm keeping my original ecm although the kit gives a 1987 lg4 as the computer for the 3 catorgories of engines.

I had the ECM and Prom from that kit in my 84 Firebird. I think you have to use the ECM from the kit also. As far as the EGR I left it hooked up for looks. I always passed emmisions with out it. I still have the ECM and Prom if your interested in buying it. My 84 got wrecked and my new car is TPI so I have no use for it. I also have the dual snorkel air cleaner setup and a reworked Q-jet from the Carb Shop if your intersted. everything has less than 20k miles.

As the story goes, the factory decided the ZZ4 cam had enough overlap so they didn't need to worry about diluting the intake charge with EGR to reduce NOx production - very nice because the ZZ4 heads don't have the exhaust crossover passages.
Using the chip with EGR delete on an engine that does not have a ZZ4 cam means you might risk failing emissions testing (if you are subject to that testing). There may also be an outside chance of pinging problems if you don't have a knock sensor. Neither one seems like a lot to worry about.
