distributor gear

I am going to swap a old style hei in a roller block does the gear
need to be changed or can i use the gear thats on it

Just run it. The gear does not care what the design of the lifters is; it only cares what material the cam is made out of. 99.999% of all hydraulic street rollers, including 100% of stock ones, are made out of the same cast iron as typical flat-tappet cams.

Roller blocks need a distributor with a hardened gear. I'm running an early 80s style distributor in a 92 roller block in my LT, and I had to get a hardened gear for it.
