j/k.....now that i got your attention.....

well to start off, i'm posting this for a friend cause i spend all my time on car forums and he doesn't.

ok down to business. my friend has an 89 firebird with the 2.8 v6. he's found a deal on a carb'd 350 and trans. what we are looking to find out is what are we gonna need to pull this off. ya know, what mounts, what we need to make sure stock hood will close, wiring if any....we need a complete list.

if you can refer me to somewhere else or post a list that'd be great. thanks for any help that u guys can provide.

also i'm not sure where the motor is from, truck or car or whatever year it is or even what transmission is bolted to it. so i'm gonna have my friend do his homework and i'll post those specs up.

Sorry, I just wanted to see the pics. lol. Anyway the best way to do it is find a donor car, but it sounds like he has already found something else. You will need v8 motor mounts obviously, I dont know if that fuel pump would feed a 350 or not, but if so it will need a regulator to bring the pressure down, otherwise you will need a mechanical or aftermarket electric pump. He shouldnt have any clearance issues as long as he uses an intake that will clear a the hood. There have been several threads on which intakes will fit and which ones wont. If he is using the stock intake there should be no problem. What kind of trans is it? If it isnt the v8 version of whatever he has now he will need to get a crossmember to fit it. I am sure that there is other stuff, but that is what I thought of off the top of my head. It may help to know exactly what all he is geting with the motor. I have never swapped from a v6 so I dont know what else may be needed. I have only done the 305-350 swap which was really simple.

sorry bout the fake-out...i was just looking for a quick response instead of it dropping down the list like a rock.

thanks momar for the input. i forgot about the crossmember. and i will look into the fuel pump and do a search to see what will fit under the hood.

and i'll get those engine specs posted as soon as i know.

can anyone else add to the list of what is needed?...i can see that plenty of ppl are looking at this post.

thanx for any help.

i remember this being a fairly decent thread about what it takes to swap a v8 into a v6 car. ITS NOT IMPOSSIBLE, it was done to my car.

I was talking about the transmission crossmember if he used a different type of transmission.

well

to sum it up you should haf to do the fowling i am doing it now as we speek in school

1.move motor mounts foward on the crossmembar (and get the motor haf if you dont all redy have it)
2.the correct crossmember for the transmission
3.if it's an auto your putting in just get a transmission coller insted of a new radiator it's easyer to do and just as cheap if not cheaper
4.im hard wiering every thing (making my owne harness) just for the cost issue it's possible just time consuming
5.the motor i got had a qudrajet on it yes it is possible to keep it with out a coumputer but you cant adjust it for summer and winter so buy a new carb if your going that way
6. get a vacume advanced distributor

That purtty much what i would of had to do to do it correctely but i made my owne moter mount on the block so i dont haf to move the ones on the car foward im going from a V-6 3.1L to a 305 with a street rod cam.

My V-6 was a manual and i have an auto for the V-8 but i want a manual and i am told that my V-6 manual trans will work on the v-8 i know it would be a lot of Torq for the gears but it would be snapy i had to buy a new bellhousing pressure plate and fly weel.

It's ovsely better to get the exaust out of the motor as fast as possible im not saying run 4inch all the way back all thought it can be done if you dont have enougfh back pressure you are loosing torq in the motor and sence horse power is just a ratio of torq and rpm you can loose horse power

So if you want to do that i would sigest what i did put a crinch in the pipe so it is 3 1/4 in a spot just dot get it right off the headers back bild up is just as bad for the problem of it going throught the hood well im trying to get it to push through so that i can cut a hole in it and let the motor get air.

it will cause problems when it rains or in the winter so keep that in mind but a hood scoop can be put on to take care of that the most common is a cowl hood all though i think it looks ugly the desin works so rain and dibry has a hard time getting in

that's about all i can think of for now that's the basic nolage that you haf to take in to consideration

yall probely dont care but i got my licnce back monday and im thinking i will haf to keep them for a year at least this time
