in process of an engine transplant..couple of questions
i dropped in my L98 and got mostly everything hooked up...
i got a holley electric fuel pump. where should i tap the wires into so that it come on when it's supposed to?
my main problem is this:
i converted it from TPI to carbed. i dropped in a vacuum advanced distributor and now im trying to get the timing right. but for the life of me it just wont kick over! i'm so close but it wont start. i get back fire and pops and such...i can tell that the engine is firing properly sometimes and the engine kicks over fast like it should...but it's like something is holding it back. i've had the distributor out a dozen times turnign the oil pump and getting it dropped in on #1. i believe im as colse as i'll ever get, and yet it STILL wont start. ive had my buddy turn the distr. in every direction over and over but it wont work. am i still off with the distributor dropping in? what else can be wrong?
thanks

Well I met someone who had a bird with a L98 and did the electric water pump. He said he plumbed it into the ignition switch and just mounted a relay on the firewall near the brake booster, that way it came on anytime the car was running. As far as getting it started....sorry, not a carb guy so honestly no clue. Not to mention my lack of knowledge with timing..good luck

that should work, but I would run a relay just so you have a little extra security. good luck on the timing issue

I would probably just get a different cable, but that is me, who has never changed a throttle cable before. I don't see why trimming it would be too hard or big of a deal, but you don't want to trim too much ya know. If nothing else, just go to a junkyard and find one off a carb camaro or t/a, that would work.

but does the cable have a mounting bracket for carb? right now all i have is the throttle cable coming from the firewall and then right to the carb...nothing in betwen holding it in place.

Yeah, you'd need a throttle bracket from a carb or TBI engine. Make sure you're tv kickdown cable is adjusted too and hooked to the bracket if you have an auto. You could probably order one from jegs, SDPC, summit, or GM if you can't find one. I highly doubt they should cost much.

i figured out why my car wouldnt start. it turns out mitchell on demand (the computer program) says that my distributor turns counter clock wise
. all i did was put the wires in clockwise rotation and she fired up right away!!!! woohoo
a new question: should i use any of the fuel return lines? if so how should i hook them up?
