Lt1 in 3rdgen
I put a Lt1 in my camaro and i need to know what kind of throttle linkage i need for it since its not carb any more, do i need some kind of kit or just a diff kind of bracket. Another thing is im having a hard time figuring out what year the motor is, ive tried looking for the block #'s all over all i see is 5.7 lt GM, and i wrote down all the #'s before i put it in the car, but i lost the sheet
So it makes it a bit harder to shop for my optispark distributor... whats the best way to tell which one i need before i go out and get the wrong one ..
thanks alot.:hail:
also any info on the harness/ecu would be greatly appreciated,
because i have a ecu and harness out of a 96 camaro that had an lt1 in it, i bought this to use for this project.. Will this work or do i need some kind of conversion one because its going into a thirdgen.. i would get the painless one, but i had already spent the money on this, so hopin it will work, otherwise i guess ill have to spent some more

The 1995 and later LT1's came with a vented opti. That is the one to get and even if your motor is from a 93 or 94 you can still use the vented one. Not sure on the wire harness but I do know that you will have to find a way to get rid of VATS, and few other things. Not to mention you need to hook up your gage cluster. I would try a search. Plenty of members have done this swap and I bet you can find some of their old posts. I would try to use a TPI linkage.

You can't just use the vented opti in place of the non vented one. The dowel driving the two are different sizes so you'd have to swap cam shafts in order to switch to the vented one if you originally have the non vented version. It should be quite easy to tell which you have just by trying to locate the vent on the housing. Using TPI linkage will work for that part of your question though.

This link explains it really well...I was originally going to this and have read up and still decided to use the non-vented set-up I already had.

where can i get tpi linkage
ok, well is there any place i can order the TPI linkage so i can put it together?.. i'd rather buy it new if it's possible..
and as for the optispark unit , i dont know which one to get ,i guess ill just order the nonvented one and see if it matches the pin size o0, and if its the wrong one just swap it out (return)
..
but im just more worried about taking care of the linkage for the throttle.. make sure that everything will work properly, because the old one i had on there for the carb will definately not work ;o... thnx...

I believe the TPI cable assembly part number is 10163822. It lists for around $17 from your local GM dealer. I ordered one for an '89 Trans Am. Just let them know at the parts counter what you need and they'll make sure you get the right part. You can also call Jason Cromer but it wouldn't be worth it for just one part. If you need a bunch of stuff then give him a call at 1-877-726-8295.

Ok
For the linkage buy a 93 bracket from S&P www.hotrodlane.com (it is like $20) and a impalla SS throttle cable $15 also S&P. If you have an auto (700R) and you have a 94 and up TB you will need an adapter plate that S&P sells for the tv linkage ($30).
As for the wiring you have a couple of choices you can wire it your self (I did) with a good book and some electrical know how or you can spend $150 and send the harness to Jims Performance and they will make your harness a four wire hook up with all of the wires labled for an easy install. If you don't have a realy good LT1 diagram and a good diagram for your car as well as quite a bit of electrical know how then do your self a favor and spend the money tio have them wire it for you. http://www.jimsperformance.com/carty3.html
