L98 Died... LT1 ready to go in

my L98 died on me... time for a new engine, so i called up a few junk yards and found myself a 94 LT1 with wiring and EVERYTHING for $500. im having a shop put the engine in because thats where my car's at right now... but what do i need to swap the LT1 into my 1990 IROC-Z. fuel pump is a few months old... pretty new. what parts should i take from the car im taking the LT1 from, and is there anything i should do to the LT1 before i put it in the iroc? thanks guys

If your stock fuel pump is new you should be ok. As far as the LT1 goes ou should replace the optispark and water pump. Also check the rear of the intake gasket for leaks.

this would be a great time for headers. i recomend the hedman hedders LT's or shorties. they are both great and the price is right.

an lt1 has the traditional O OO O exhaust port just like any other sbc. if the one you have has an O O O O exhuast port, then you have an ls1. i don't really know a whole lot about the header selection for a 3rd gen/ls1 swap except the ones at thirdgenresource.com

Im going LT1, not LS1 . I know the difference hehe. I just want to make sure they will clear ok if put into a thirdgen if its meant for a 95 z28. Thanks for the reply.

yeah, LT1's have the same outside dimensions as a traditional sbc.

So any headers for an LT1 4th gen will work in a 3rd gen using an LT1?

yes

~edit~ to be more clear you can use hedders that fit a traditional sbc, like your old tpi on the lt1 engine because of the O OO O exhaust port patterns so you wont have to buy a set for a 4th gen. you can just get a set for a thirdgen.

Ok cool beans, I knew they bolted up, but thought that maybe the thirdgen crossmember or something else obstructs it, thanks.

any thirdgen specific header will bolt up to your LT1, there are no differences in the outside of the motor then the traditional sbc that is already in your car.

Only headers meant for 3rd gen TPI car will bolt up to and have no/minimal clearance issues when used with an LT1. You cannot use a 4th gen specific LT1 header in a 3rd gen. The down tubes will not clear.

i thought that certain headers would help a LT1 engine more than others because of the "D" exhaust ports.

if you have a 700R4 you will need a 92/93 LT1 throttle body and throttle cable bracket
