Best way to haul and engine?
I may be getting a TPI 350 soon and the only way I can go get it is witha pick up truck. What would be the best way to strap down the engine?

Find someone with a cherry picker, get a wooden pallete, one that can hold the weight, strape it down, put it in the truck and go.

Get an old tire and plop the engine dron in the center of it, so the deep part of the sump is in the hole. Then tie it down with rope or rachet straps. I've hauled at least five engines like this and never ahd one damaged.

i am all for the tire tip.....hauled engines all around using that idea ......strap em down tight and you're golden....works like a charm.
the tire is a very good way to haul an engine, used it a few times myself. however i got sick of finding an old tire everytime i had to transport an engine, so i just built an engine cradle. like the ones you find in summit racing. works better, and looks better hauling the engine too

Build a 2x12 "box" that goes around the pan, the engine sits in/on the "box" with the weight on the pan rails.
A lot of crate engines are shipped that way. You'll still have to tie it down to keep it from sliding forward/backward or side-to-side.

Another vote on the tire method. Just go to your local tire dealer. That’s how I got my truck tire for free which I used to haul a LT-1 motor with tranny to Las Vegas. Definitely strap the engine down. When choosing a tire the wider the better.
