LT1 swap, power and MPG

alright i know that the LT1 engine by itself make close to 300 at the crank, correct? I'd like to put 350 to the wheels, atleast. What would i need to do to reach that power but keep the fuel efficency up?

I'm not very comfortable doing any porting on the LT1 heads as i dont relaly trust myself with that job. I'm fine with porting the plenum however.

I was thinking, 1-5/8 headers, LT-4 Hot Cam, small porting. What kinda power am i talking here? This wont be too expensive.

What other bolt ons could i do to make even more power? I will get an air foil, K&N filter and the such.

Thanks in advance,
Shane

With just what you're talking about, I would think 325 to the wheels could be a good number. I've got around 400 at the crank, 3.42 gears out back with a 5 speed, and I get about 15-18 around town, about 25 mpg on the highway

Its just a guess, I've never dyno'd it and I'm losing a little power right now because of the tune.

One reason the LT1's got such good gas mileage is the 6-speed. A lot of LT1ers are running 4.10's in the back and still getting 20+ MPG. That's the reason I'm going with a 6-speed!

Mine gets 22-23 on the highway,,around 14 -16 in town (3:42's) depending how I drive, I have the t56, the 94's are rated 275 at the crank. Do the headers and the hot cam change, and you will get about 325-350hp to the crank.

well since you get such great mileage, is your LT1 stock? If not, then what kinda mods have you done to it to get such great mileages out of the LT1?

Thanks,
Shane

Thanks,
Shane

all stock accept the ac delete and K&N cold air intake...Shifting at 70mph and running around 2000rpm does wonders for milage: on the 3:42's..I keep her tuned up...mobil 1 front to rear and I burn 91-92 octain...Like I said around town its a different story. My wife races the 94 at the local 1/8 mi track here and puts down 2.1 60 ft with 79-81mph..we lose a lot of milage there!

With good tuning you can get 325-350 wheel hp with a hot cam kit, headers catback and full bolt ons. Good tuning is key though it can make a huge differance. I gained around 40whp and as much torque when I got my car tuned properly.
I shooting for 425 whp this summer with a custom cam and some other changes as well asa t56 conversion. (5 percent less drivetrain loss than my vigi and 4l60e)
Hope this helps.
Kory
