ok.....the tranny in my 305 has gone to ****.....so i've got the about 4500 to play w/.....i'm thinking about building a budget 383 stroker and puttin a th 400 behind it w/ a transbrake.....i'm wanting something w/ around 400 hp...something streetable enough to drive every day and still be dependable but something w/ enough hp to blow off the back tires! what do you guys think I could build a motor for price wise?

 

$4500 is plenty to build a 400hp engine. You could easily pull 400hp with a 350 also and be happy with the power. A 383 may run you a bit more money depending on what parts you use. If you want the car to be a daily driver I would use a built 700r4 with a good converter because of the overdrive.
