All at once...or baby steps?

I've sourced an '95 LT1 from a Caddy for $550. I've got almost all of a '95 T56 sitting in my garage (missing clutch/pressure plate and misc little bits). I've got a scat 383 crank and LT4 HotCam for the LT1 also...

My question is: Is it better to get the LT1 installed and running mated to the T-5 I have first...then when the bugs are worked out install the T-56...then when its going well, yank the motor again for the 383 conversion/cam, etc??? OR is it better to build the shortblock, install the cam, work the heads, etc....then do the install? I'm looking for opinions since I dont know that there is a "right" way to do it.

With the baby steps approach it seems like more work, but there will be satisfaction with completion of each step versus a longer wait, but one big @ssed grin at the end.

Also, is there any place cheaper than Summit for the wiring harness? They want $600 for theirs for the '95 LT1.

as for the wiring harness, im not sure. could try ebay.

id just do it all in one deal and do it with patience, best of both worlds then. theres never a wrong way of doing it... just a cheaper way.

I would do it all at once. This saves you the time of removing and reinstalling the engine.

Wiring harness are not cheap. You can build your own if you have access to the wiring diagrams. Otherwise, call speartech. I think he is making a trunk that you integrate yourself. It is significantly less than his custom harness.
