While swapping, i pulled ECM....
Ok, a quick question. I pulled the ECM and wire harness out of my car. I left it intact and un-molested just in case i did something bad. BUT my question is, Do i loose anything else other than my emision controlls? I did something like that on my last 3rd gen, and my reverse lights did not work anymore, but i went off cutting wires that time. I dropped in a 350, but its not wired yet. I switched to a holly 4150 carb, and a mallory vaccum advance distributer, so i dont think i need any of the computer controlls.
Can anyone verify that i do not need any of those wires at all in my setup?

I just got done doing the same to my car. I also removed the ECM and harness.
But I haven't put my engine in yet. It looks like all the connections are for smog, so I don't anticipate any probs with mine at all. The reverse lights are part of the main harness and separate from the ECM stuff, so they should still work.

Well, you do lose the ability to run the carb/ignition on the ragged edge, which is good for performance and gas mileage, as well as using cheap gas. Prolly not too much worse without the ECM though.
There are two connectors you're concerned with...C207 is the white/clear plastic one in the passenger side footwell, C100 is the black plastic one on the driver side firewall, next to the smaller plastic connector for the headlights and turn signals.
Things on these connectors that you want to keep include:
-12VDC feed to the cabin fuse panel...your headlights, dash, stereo, etc. are fed off this.
-oil pressure gauge
-coolant temp gauge
-reverse lights
-starter solenoid
-torque converter clutch (if your car's an automatic)
May be others, that's just what comes to mind that you'll need whether you're carbed or injected.

yeah, i took out c207. I did not cut any wires on this harness, but i dont honestly think i need them now. Like i said. I took out the computer controled carb. took out the stock distributer, and took out the entire AIR system.

ya, no problem there too, Autolite pro-comp gauges. i had to something about my 85mph speedo, and i couldnt let my other gauges hang.

That's weird. I removed my ECM harness on my '83, and it has nothing to do with any gages. I still have the connectors on the main harness that's still in the car for the oil and coolant temp gages, backup lights, starter etc.
I do know something would have to be done about TCC lockup - If I had a auto trans, which I don't. I know on newer cars, the ECM feeds dash gages but not on mine. Guess I'll know for sure when I get the engine in, and everything hooked up.
