pulling engine question
Can you leave the transmission (700r4) bolted to the engine and pull both at the same time? Or will I have to unbolt the transmission and drop it out from the bottom? Since I'm planning on storing the old stuff in the building anyway I just figured it would be nice if I could pull it as a unit and then store it as a unit without the extra work of unbolting them and then bolting them back together. Thanks for the input.

Thats probably the easiest way of doing it but you definately need a tilt sling thingiemabob. Make sure you drain the transmission or you're gonna have a crap load of trans fluid on the ground when you tilt the transmission back. Also make sure your radiator and everything is out of the way you really need that extra space to pull the motor forward and out.

Thanks. I'll start disconnecting the hoses, wiring, draining the transmission and removing the radiator this weekend. Hopefully the engine hoist and stand will get here soon after.
I have pulled mine a couple of times for various reasons and never used a tilt sling, If you jack the back of the car up as far as you can and put jack stands under it you can pull the motor/tranny ALMOST level out of the engine compartment, IMHO it make the whole job much easier.

There's certainly more than one way to skin a cat. Adjusting a tilt sling is easier and safer than jacking up and supporting half the car. And, small adjustments possible with the tilt during reinstallation can be very welcome.
But,whatever.

on the other hand,......
if you choose to separate the two, I found this to be so much easier than a cherry picker
