What do you think of this 350

http://www.store.yahoo.com/hm-performance/cp350lb.html

What do you guys think of this 350? The engine is local so I don't have to pay for shipping. I would use my TPI setup from my car. I would have to get a new intake manifold because the bolt pattern is different on mine because it is an '85. I would have to get new fuel injectors. As far as I know, everything else from my car would work with this engine. I would have to do some programming but I need to do that now. Is this engine worth it? If I get it before 4/30 I can get it for around $1300.

that motor is the older style, right?

your intake will bolt up fine, 85 was the last year for the old intake bolt angles in the f-bodys

It's not a short block. It's a standard long block.

*cough* Gee, I wonder if the word longblock should have given it away in the ad.

No problem. Do you think it is worth it? I found out that it is a flap tappet cam setup so that could be one negative to it.

Certainly a "no" without more specifics about the heads, but sounds like smog anchors.

What kind of specs do I need about the heads? As far as I know that are stock heads.

It looks like noone likes that 350. I may stick with my original plan of adding the Torquer 305(ported) and a cam to the 305. It just seemed like I would be getting more for my money out of the 350 than I would out of the heads and cam. The heads and cam will cost me about $800 vs. the $1300 for the 350.

No, Vettes changed to aluminum heads mid-year '86, but f-bodies didn't get the intake/valve cover bolt changes until '87.

You need casting numbers.

They may be "stock" heads, but stock on what? Most likely they are 882 castings, about the worst SBC head ever made, and one of the most numerous they ever made. Stay away from them.

Without changes to things such as exhaust, the 350 won't make any more power than the 305 - maybe a little more low-end torque, but no more power.

So, the heads & cam upgrade might cost you $800 (probably more), but exhaust is going to add another $500-$800 - but you'd need to do that with a 350, too.

I chose the "improve the 305" route as well, as you can see in the sig.

Check my sig. I already have full exhaust. I have already found all the parts that I need for the heads and cam setup. The total cost for that will be just over $1000 if I have the heads ported. It will be $800 without the porting.

The total will be $850 if you do the porting yourself.

Well, you'll need a $20 diegrinder, and a $350 air compressor, but you "need" those, anyway.

I missed the exhaust part. Sigs don't show up while you're drafting a reply.
